Chapter 31: Earth Observation Station
The group was still in shock, standing dazed as they watched the robots cease all movement. None of them could suppress their curiosity as they couldn't help but ask themselves, "What just happened?"
Kelly was the first to react. She cautiously opened the front door, carefully surveying the surroundings. After a moment, she stepped outside and then turned back, smiling brightly. "It looks like all the robots have shut down!"
Hearing this, everyone quickly followed her outside. They saw the robots lying on the ground; some remained in their previous positions but were entirely motionless, frozen in place. Shizuka asked in confusion, "Why did this happen? What exactly is going on?
"It's because of that black spot!" Doraemon responded to Shizuka. At some point, he had taken out the tablet they used earlier to investigate the situation.
The group grew more puzzled at Doraemon's words and quickly gathered around him to look at the images transmitted on the tablet. The black spot had reappeared on the sun. This time, however, the spot was even larger than before. It pulsated violently, expanding and contracting erratically in an unstable struggle against the sun.
"How is this possible? We're in the year 2530! How could that black spot show up here—and why is it so massive?" Karen asked in a panic, her face reflecting the same unease as everyone else. The situation was spiraling out of control.
"I don't know why it appeared now, but this black spot is far more terrifying than the previous one. Some powerful force is trying to destroy the sun. The sun, in turn, is focusing all its energy to fight back. It no longer has the strength to figure out how to destroy us!" Doraemon said, somewhat tense. Clearly, he was also very confused about the current situation.
Shizuka muttered in disbelief, "Earthly creatures are merely the sun's playthings… so could the sun itself be a plaything for the force behind that black spot?"
"But what kind of force could possibly do something like this…?" Karen murmured weakly.
"This universe has always been like this—an endless cycle," Doraemon said in a grim tone. "While you're toying with others, someone else might be toying with you. In this place, there's no such thing as absolute power."
"What should we do now?" Kelly asked, looking toward Doraemon.
Doraemon examined the data on the tablet before responding seriously, "If the sun is destroyed, the solar system can't survive either, and we all know what that means. Our only option is to save the sun—and then find a way to control it!"
The group was filled with doubt. Saving the sun was one thing, but controlling it? Was that even possible?
Shizuka stared at the black spot on the sun and said gravely, "Forget controlling it—just saving it is already a monumental challenge. How can we, mere goldfish, possibly save the child?"
Doraemon smiled confidently. "Don't forget, I'm not from the solar system. My people, the Përjetësia, are also 'fishkeepers.' On Earth, I've been heavily limited and unable to do much. But if we can leave the solar system, go to the Përjetësia base, and utilize our advanced technology, that would be a different story. Before, we didn't have the chance—but now we can make it happen!"
Hearing Doraemon's words, hope began to stir within the group. That's right—Doraemon wasn't from Earth. As a member of the Përjetësia, perhaps he could pull off the impossible.
Shizuka, however, remained skeptical. "Is it really possible?" she whispered.
"It is," Doraemon affirmed resolutely, extending a hand to Shizuka. "Let's go—save Earth, humanity, and the people of Atlantis. Let the Përjetësia atone for their past mistakes!"
Shizuka took a deep breath before grasping Doraemon's hand firmly. "Let's do it," she said, determination in her voice. Doraemon smiled and helped her to her feet.
"So, are we heading to Përjetësia now?" Rim asked curiously.
Doraemon shook his head. "No, we're going to the Earth Observation Station first."
"The Earth Observation Station?" the group repeated in confusion.
"Yes," Doraemon explained. "It's a facility we use to monitor everything here. It's already been around for tens of millions of years. When we get there, I'll meet with the other Përjetësia and conduct a conference; we'll try to come up with the best solution!"
As he spoke, Doraemon adjusted the bracelet Shizuka handed him; despite using it for the first time, he quickly figured out how it worked.
"Where exactly is this observation station?" Connie asked, intrigued.
"It doesn't have a fixed location," Doraemon replied. "As Earth's geography changes and humans continually expand their national territories, our observation station is constantly updating as well.
This is the seventh observation station, and it's the farthest one from Earth. It quietly resides beside the solar system, slowly orbiting around the sun!"
Connie and Rim were astonished and asked, "Wait, could this observation station be...?"
Doraemon nodded, replying while connecting Shizuka's bracelet to the tablet to set something up: "That's right, this observation station is within your human observation range, but humans have never been able to confirm its existence. However, you've had your suspicions. Scientists, through calculations of the orbits of planets in the solar system, discovered discrepancies between theoretical data and actual operational movements. These discrepancies can only be explained by the existence of an unknown planet within the solar system. This is the planet that humans call the mysterious Planet X. It's a planet humanity has never discovered, and even with the most advanced Hubble telescope, they've never detected even a hint of its light."
Kelly and Connie exchanged astonished looks. "So that's it. We always wondered where those discrepancies came from. Who would've thought…"
Doraemon smiled. "As long as we don't want humans to find it, they never will."
The group nodded. It was no surprise—the Përjetësia clearly had the ability to achieve such feats.
At that moment, a massive portal connecting to a time tunnel opened in Shizuka's backyard. A sleek, futuristic spaceship emerged slowly from the portal. Doraemon waved at the group. "That's the ship I used to come to Earth!"
"Can it also travel through time?" Kelly asked, wide-eyed.
"It can, but it's not as convenient as the Time Machine. It's designed for interstellar travel, so entering and exiting time tunnels consumes a lot of fuel!" Doraemon replied while continuing to adjust his tablet. A soft blue light emanated from the ship's underside, enveloping everyone. In an instant, they vanished from the yard. When they regained their senses, they found themselves inside Doraemon's spaceship, curiously inspecting their surroundings.
With everyone on board, Doraemon quickly guided them to the control room. Taking his seat at the helm, he issued a command in the Përjetësia language: "Filloni rrugën e kthimit, objektivi: stacioni i vëzhgimit të sistemit diellor!" ("Initiate return route, destination: earth observation station!")
The spaceship began to hum as it powered up. Everyone settled into their seats, bracing themselves for the journey ahead.
