Dominate the Super Bowl

Chapter 240: 239 Muscle Forest

At the twenty-five-yard line just in front of the end zone, third and five.

The situation was leveling out, the defensive group had a smaller area to cover, so they could spread out their limbs, support and encircle more timely, less likely to give up big yardage, and the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive momentum was slowing down—

Strike while the iron is hot, weaken upon the second effort, and exhausted at the third.

Pederson had shown his boldness, successfully slowing down the pace, which allowed the Philadelphia Eagles to get back into form. As long as they could stop this wave of offense, prevent the score difference from widening further, then...

"Attack!"

Smith had announced the start of the play.

On one hand, the Philadelphia Eagles still did not opt for a blitz, just a frontal pressure, the entire short and medium pass area was crowded with players.

On the other hand, Smith repeated the old trick, Li Wei moving from right to left behind him, Smith turning his back to the offensive line and passing, completely blocking the view.

What was slightly different this time was that the left side was the pair of the tight end and wide receiver, while Kansas City Chiefs' number one wide receiver Hill was stationed alone on the right.

So, was this truly a running play, or a fake run that was actually a pass?

In just a fleeting moment, every player in the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive group needed to make a judgement, where the intensity of the moment could be felt escalating.

Defensive end Barnett was not distracted—

As long as Li Wei was on the field, he was one hundred percent focused.

He half-heartedly engaged the offensive tackle in front of him, while meticulously observing every move of Li Wei. Even though his view was temporarily blocked by Smith, he did not let his attention wander, his laser-like eyes seemingly able to see through Smith's body.

Then, Li Wei appeared.

It was him!

Though a small portion of the defensive players were distracted guarding against Hill's deep threat, Barnett wasn't; he wouldn't let Li Wei make any sneaky moves right under his nose.

Indeed, he had caught him!

This was a running play. The Kansas City Chiefs went against the grain on third and five by choosing to run, where people generally believed there was a 90% chance Reed would opt for a pass, instead Reed gave the football to Li Wei.

Barnett: Got you.

This time, he wouldn't take it lightly or repeat the same mistake.

With a lateral step, Barnett had already thrown off the offensive tackle assigned to him, standing like a meat mountain in the slot, and he didn't rush forward. Instead, he controlled his center of gravity, ready to move sideways like a crab at any moment. As long as he intercepted Li Wei on the line of scrimmage, there was no need to lose balance due to any rash moves and end up being toyed with by Li Wei's nimble footwork. He wouldn't make the same mistake again.

Moreover!

Since tight end Kelsey was on this side, it was the strong side, which meant the Philadelphia Eagles had obviously amassed more troops here. Even if Hill drew some of the attention away, Barnett could still see many of his teammates behind him.

Meaning, the space for Li Wei to take advantage of was very limited, tightly packed, with one ring fitting into another, forming a muscle forest.

Barnett was one hundred percent confident.

At a glance, Barnett noticed Li Wei's footsteps; they were not continuously moving sideways. Clearly, he had also realized there was no room for continued lateral movement, it was better to move vertically as soon as possible, to press on before the encircling closed in.

Naturally, the slot became the most efficient route.

Barnett spread his arms wide open, embracing: Come on, I'm ready.

Thud, thud, thud.

Li Wei moved forward. Enjoy new adventures at empire

Barnett was pleased, but the joy had not yet burst forth when it turned into panic.

Fast.

One word, it was fast.

Li Wei's burst of speed as he moved up the vertical route made his figure loom large in Barnett's pupils, like the twins from "The Shining" who seemed to move instantaneously at the end of the hallway.

Barnett was stunned, his center of gravity had just stabilized when the impact had already arrived.

Hmph.

Barnett grunted, bearing the impact like a fierce uppercut to the chin that instantly cut off his breath. Before he had time to process, he felt a chill above his head as his helmet went flying.

He didn't even have time to cry out in pain before the force of Li Wei's continuing advance, relentless as Sisyphus rolling his boulder, came barreling into him, leaving no chance for resistance and flipping his balance askew.

He held his breath, and the next second he saw Arrowhead Stadium flip upside down in his pupils, the azure sky receding further and further away.

What...what's happening?

Li Wei paid no attention to the fallen Barnett, his steps steadily forging ahead. A surge of blood and energy trembled from his shoulders to his knees, hinting at exhaustion. Without pausing to recover, he spotted the next figure.

Lineman Jordan Hicks.

So, do I give up?

Li Wei glimpsed from the corner of his eye Hicks's disordered footsteps, a clear sign that he had been thrown off by the coordinated maneuvers of Hill, Smith, and the concealed Li Wei. Hicks was caught off-guard when he realized it was a running play and rushed to respond.

Perhaps, an opportunity?

Both Li Wei and Hicks were on the brink of collapse, neither able to exert accurate force nor find their balance.

Amidst his staggering, Li Wei made a move to juke to the right, dragging Hicks along as if mirroring his motion. Then with hardly a pause, he pulled back to the left and surged forward.

A feint, a charge.

The rapid shifts in the tight space left Hicks unable to keep up. At the same time, Li Wei, unable to plant his heels firmly, slipped and nearly fell.

The stadium erupted in gasps.

Then, to his left, Li Wei could see Cornerback Douglas closing in at full speed—

Strike when the iron is hot.

With one step forward and a lunge, Douglas swooped like a vulture circling a carcass.

In that fleeting moment, Li Wei propped up his body with his left hand, avoiding a fall on his butt or knees, and astonishingly regained his footing using his core strength. As Douglas was about to pounce, a red figure streaked across like a bullet train.

Kelsey.

In Li Wei's eyes, Douglas's face shifted from delight to the iconic scream mask from "The Shining," tackled straight on by Kelsey.

The obstacle, cleared.

But Li Wei had no time to catch his breath, staggering like a toddler learning to walk, he maneuvered around Kelsey and Douglas to break outside.

Just as he steadied his steps, a white figure, face and number unseen, hurtled toward him like a whirlwind.

One wave had yet to settle before another was upon him.

Holding his breath, Li Wei used the faint momentum of his run to leap into the air subconsciously—

Jump.

Truth be told, Li Wei didn't jump high, but it was precisely this act that created a misalignment, allowing the white figure to pass beneath him.

Li Wei barely landed, knees buckling, seemingly on the verge of falling. He clung to his last breath by sheer core strength, doggedly propelling his body forward, even if just by an extra yard or two.

Dig in.

That was the only thought in Li Wei's mind.

Dig in, step hard, exert force, keep charging.

Stumbling and lurching, Li Wei unbelievably continued to advance near the sideline, his flailing movements suggesting he could lose balance at any second but defying the odds, they persisted.

Then, a storm approached.

It was Safety Jenkins.
