Chapter 21: Chapter 21
The Spirit Saint Douluo Yali's martial soul was named Prayer Angel, a unique healing-type martial soul that made soul power cultivation particularly arduous.
Born in the slums, Yali joined a mysterious organization secretly established by the Federal Government after becoming a soul master. Despite having the chance to leave her impoverished roots, she chose to stay, using her healing abilities to help the poor.
She had no idea when her Prayer Angel martial soul began to grow stronger. It wasn't until she had already advanced significantly in her cultivation that she realized the Prayer Angel's true way of advancement was through absorbing external faith energy.
Every time she healed someone, she would gain this energy from the one she helped. By the time she discovered this, she had already reached the Soul King level.
Around fifty years ago, a massive plague swept through the Douluo Continent, claiming countless lives. At the time, Yali was at the seven-ring level, a Soul Sage. In just fifteen days, she traveled across fourteen provinces of the continent. By the time the last batch of plague victims was cured, her own life force was almost completely drained.
In those fifteen days, she aged fifty years, burning her accumulated faith energy and her life force to enhance her healing capabilities. When she was finally found, unconscious and on the brink of death, there was seemingly no hope of recovery.
But from that day forward, as plague victims began to recover, trickles of faith energy started to flow back into her. After being in a coma for a year, Yali woke up, and her cultivation leaped directly from Soul Sage to Title Douluo level—earning her the title of the fastest individual in Douluo Continent history to jump from seven rings to nine.
Later, Atlas Douluo Yun Ming took her away from the Federal Government, and she resided on Seagod Island in Shrek Academy, rarely seen. However, during times of great disaster, she would always appear, saving countless lives with her power.
At over eighty years old, Yali's body had accumulated immeasurable faith energy. This energy not only boosted her cultivation but also enhanced the lifespan of her soul spirits. During the plague fifty years ago, she amassed a massive amount of faith energy, allowing her final soul spirit to evolve to the 100,000-year level, turning her last three soul rings red.
Without hesitation, Yali channeled her vast reserves of faith energy into Xia Yi's body. In her mind, no matter how much energy she poured into him, his relatively low cultivation level would limit how much he could absorb.
As the faith energy surged into him, Xia Yi involuntarily entered his martial soul possession state. The energy filled him with an unprecedented clarity, pushing his body and mind into a transcendent state.
However, Yali severely underestimated Xia Yi's capacity for faith energy. His body seemed like an endless void, absorbing everything she gave without limit.
"I don't believe I can't satisfy you!" Yali huffed, feeling a bit stubborn. Earlier, she had lost to Xia Yi in their debate, but now, she was determined to outmatch him with her overwhelming power.
Golden halos radiated from her body as six black and three red soul rings materialized around her. A petite angel emerged from behind her, its three pairs of wings shimmering with light. The angel fluttered forward and hovered before Xia Yi.
This was Yali's martial soul—the Prayer Angel.
A torrent of faith energy flowed from the Prayer Angel, forming a golden river that connected to Xia Yi's brow. The massive influx of energy caused Xia Yi's martial soul to begin transforming.
Under everyone's stunned gazes, a second tail slowly grew behind Xia Yi.
"Martial soul evolution?" Yali's eyes narrowed slightly. If Xia Yi's martial soul could continue evolving, it would compensate for his initial talent deficit.
If he could evolve into a nine-tailed form, he might even qualify for Shrek Academy's inner court.
Of course, even a Nine-Tailed Fox martial soul would still fall short compared to the martial souls of the inner court's top prodigies.
Once the second tail was fully formed, the absorbing force from Xia Yi's body finally subsided. Yali withdrew her Prayer Angel martial soul and studied Xia Yi carefully.
"For just one tail to require this much faith energy, evolving to nine tails would drain me completely." Yali muttered under her breath. She then looked at Xia Yi and said, "My martial soul requires faith energy to cultivate, and your martial soul needs faith energy to evolve. Are you really sure you don't want to be my disciple?"
"I don't want to be a support!" Xia Yi's mood was lifted by the evolution of his martial soul, but he wasn't about to change his stance.
At this point, Yali's faith energy no longer attracted him, which meant it was no longer useful for further evolution.
His first tail had evolved by absorbing Gu Yue's blood, and his second tail had been catalyzed by Yali's faith energy.
He had no idea what kind of power would be needed for the third tail, but it was clear that faith energy alone wouldn't suffice.
Unaware of this limitation, Yali assumed Xia Yi could keep evolving as long as there was enough faith energy.
"Since that's the case, let me see your soul skill again." A hint of regret flickered through Yali's beautiful eyes. After so many years, she had finally taken a liking to a potential disciple, only to be rejected so completely.
"Fine. But it's best to find someone with lower cultivation to cooperate with me," Xia Yi nodded, fulfilling his earlier promise to Yali, especially after receiving her help in evolving his martial soul.
"Alright!" Yali nodded. Her own cultivation was too high, which made it difficult to observe the full effect of Xia Yi's soul skill.
Instead of troubling anyone else, Yali approached Tang Wulin and took Na'er from his arms.
Her Prayer Angel emerged again, its gentle light enveloping Na'er. With a soft wave of soul power, Na'er's purple eyes slowly opened.
"Master Yali, w-wah…" The moment she saw Yali, all of Na'er's pent-up grievances erupted as she broke into tears.
"Alright, don't cry. I know everything now," Yali comforted her gently, patting Na'er on the shoulder. Though she didn't know the full extent of Na'er's ordeal, it was clear she had suffered greatly.
But Yali could never imagine just how much Na'er had truly endured.
