Chapter 41 - Normandy? Hell Difficulty!?
After Lin Feng posted his trade offer yesterday, many people who remembered him quickly clicked in.
Hence, Lin Feng’s haul last night was quite substantial.
He managed to trade some canned food and bread, which he had grown tired of, for four hundred kilograms of iron, one hundred kilograms of copper, and ten kilograms of gold.
Ever since Lin Feng started buying copper, some people guessed that copper might be a resource needed for future upgrades, so they began to collect it.
Now, all he needs for the upgrade are aluminum and coins.
If all goes well, he should be able to gather all of them today.
After taking everything out, Lin Feng stuffed it all into the material dumping area in one go.
Soon, the system’s prompt sound rang out.
“Ding, the host is about to enter the War Floor. The host must survive one day on this floor, playing the role of a Squad Leader leading soldiers into battle. Rewards will be calculated based on the number of enemies killed after the floor ends. This floor is very dangerous and cannot be refused. Please be careful, host.”
“Ding! Legendary task triggered. Please kill more than five hundred people. Reward: Eagle Eye ability.”
“Wait, War Floor? What’s that??”
Lin Feng suddenly felt inexplicably nervous. This time, he had to survive for an entire day in this floor.
Clearly, this was no ordinary battlefield.
“Ding Dong! Elevator Descending, please hold on tightly.”
Buzz…
The elevator began to descend rapidly. After a full minute, it finally slowed down and stopped.
“Ding Dong! The survivor is requested to survive on this floor for 24 hours. After completion, substantial rewards will be given.”
After the elevator’s brief announcement, the doors opened. The Little Velociraptor seemed to sense the unease and kept calling out to Lin Feng.
However, Lin Feng did not plan to bring it with him. On the battlefield, taking the Little Velociraptor with him wouldn’t be of much help. It would be better to let it stay in the elevator. After all, the pool would refresh with food and water every day, so Lin Feng wasn’t worried about it going hungry.
This time, Lin Feng couldn’t see the scene outside the elevator. It was all engulfed in a blinding white light.
Lin Feng had originally planned to take his equipment with him, but as he approached the white light, all of his equipment fell off. It was as if a force was compelling him to step into the light.
In the end, the only things that left the elevator with Lin Feng were the Luck Ring on his finger and the clothes on his body.
After exiting the elevator, Lin Feng slowly opened his eyes, which he had shut tight due to the blinding white light.
“Boom!!”
“Boom!!!”
Sounds of explosions and ringing ears, mixed with the clamor of shouting, left Lin Feng feeling somewhat dizzy.
“Squad Leader, Squad Leader!”
At that moment, a soldier dressed in dark green military uniform was shaking Lin Feng incessantly.
The language spoken by the soldier was unfamiliar to Lin Feng, yet strangely, he could understand it.
“What happened?”
“Squad Leader, our bunker was just bombed by naval gunfire, you were knocked out!”
The soldier hastily explained. After helping Lin Feng to a nearby chair, he picked up his gun and left.
“Bolt-action rifle? What the hell??”
Lin Feng was even more bewildered.
It was at this moment that he noticed that the soldier’s uniform looked like that of a Third Reich soldier.
Looking at himself, a dark officer uniform, black boots…
And the mention of naval gunfire…
Damn! Could this floor be the battlefield of the Third Reich in Europa??
Lin Feng shook his still ringing head. He now understood why the system said this place was extremely dangerous.
In such a battlefield, the mortality rate was very high. However, it was still unclear what kind of battlefield this was. If it was from the early or mid-period, then his chances of completing the mission were relatively high.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Feng slowly stood up from his chair. His gun was leaning against the corner of the room. Having Intermediate Firearms Mastery, Lin Feng recognized the weapon immediately.
A G43 Semi-automatic Rifle.
After picking up the gun, Lin Feng left his personal quarters.
Outside the quarters were three soldiers operating machine guns. Upon seeing Lin Feng, they all called out, “Squad Leader!”
At this point, Lin Feng was not quite sure of the situation. He could only nod in response, and then look outside.
What he saw was a scorched earth, destroyed anti-tank hedgehogs, and barbed wire.
Not far from below, Lin Feng could see the ocean and the ships that were continuously bombarding the shore.
A loud hum echoed.
“Take cover!”
The soldier who had just greeted Lin Feng quickly pulled him down. The next moment, a violent explosion sounded. Fortunately, the fort was sturdy and not severely damaged.
“Cough, cough…”
“I was a bit dazed from the blast just now. Where are we?” Lin Feng asked the soldier in front of him.
“Sir, we’re in Normandy. The Allied Forces are trying to cross the English Channel and land here. Our orders are to repel their troops!”
Normandy…
Damn! It’s Normandy!!
Lin Feng was stunned. It was already the end of World War II, and the Third Reich was on the brink of collapse.
How was he supposed to survive this?
Hell Difficulty?
Thankfully, all Lin Feng needed to do was survive one day in this godforsaken place. That should be manageable.
“Squad Leader, do you want a smoke? You seem a bit off.”
“Thank you.”
Lin Feng took the cigarette, instinctively reaching for a lighter. But all he pulled out was a box of matches.
“Much better.”
Although the smoke was a bit harsh, Lin Feng had to admit it did help him relax.
Further inquiries revealed that the Allied Forces’ attack had just been repelled. They were now using heavy fire to destroy all bunkers and forts.
The squad Lin Feng was leading was responsible for one of these forts.
Ten soldiers in total. They had been fighting for a week, but no one had died. Moreover, they had repelled more than a dozen Allied Forces’ assaults.
Their mood was surprisingly relaxed. The fort was so sturdy that even hundreds of millimeters of naval gunfire couldn’t shatter it. Their daily task was to operate the fixed heavy machine guns and pull the trigger.
Learning the current situation, Lin Feng felt even more relaxed. It seemed the advantage was his.
When he returned to his quarters and checked his personal effects, he found that he had a special supply of cigars, chewing gum, and instant coffee.
Were all squad leaders treated this lavishly?
“It’s my first time trying a cigar.”
Lin Feng took out a cigar, examined it, bit off the cap, and started puffing.
“Damn, it’s strong…”
After a few puffs, Lin Feng quickly lost interest. He went outside, tapped on the shoulder of the soldier he was chatting with earlier, and handed it to him.
“It’s yours now.”
