Chapter 69: The Deal and the Bargaining Chip
In the dim underground space, Felina and Venti appeared simultaneously.
The Anemo Archon and the Hydro Archon manifested together, their overwhelming presence instantly enveloping the entire space.
"Anemo Archon Barbatos, Hydro Archon Focalors!"
When Aether saw Felina and Venti, his expression changed dramatically, and the high-ranking members of the Abyss Order at the scene erupted into an uproar.
"So this was your plot all along!"
Aether's face turned ashen, his gaze fixed on Felina and Venti.
"Hmph!"
Felina shrugged, as if confirming Aether's accusation. The series of bizarre events that had befallen Lumine and Paimon over the past few days were indeed part of a plan devised by her and Venti.
As for the specifics of the plan, one would have to go back eight days to uncover its origins.
To obtain the Gnosis of the Anemo Archon, eight days ago, Felina arrived in Mondstadt.
At that time, Mondstadt was suffering from the rampages of a dragon disaster. When Venti awoke, he began relentlessly tracking the Stormterror, Dvalin.
On that very day, Venti encountered a girl with blue and white hair near Starsnatch Cliff.
"Such a strong aura of water element... Judging by your divine stature, you must be the Hydro Archon, Focalors?"
"First time meeting, Anemo Archon Barbatos."
Felina extended her hand toward Venti.
"First time meeting, just call me Venti."
Venti, ever amiable, reached out and shook hands with Felina.
With an esteemed guest visiting, Venti was not one to be inhospitable, and he temporarily paused his pursuit of Dvalin.
"Ah, how embarrassing it is to say... As a god, I am far less wealthy than other gods. Having an esteemed guest visit, I find myself unable to offer anything worthy as hospitality."
The Anemo Archon Barbatos, carefree by nature, had entrusted freedom to his people, resulting in his long absence from his divine seat. Consequently, he had little to no offerings to his name.
A god of great stature, he sometimes couldn't even afford loose wine and often had to sing in the city to earn money for drinks. Among all the gods, he was arguably the least well-off, second only to Nahida.
And so, in the wilderness on a grassy field, the two gods leaned against a large tree and began their discussion.
"I hear you are fond of wine. This is a specialty red wine from Fontaine. I hope you won't find it lacking."
Felina took out two bottles of red wine and placed them beside Venti.
When Venti saw the two bottles of premium red wine, his eyes lit up instantly.
"Oh, my, thank you so much! You wouldn't believe it—since I woke up, I've been chasing after Dvalin and haven't had a single sip of wine."
"Then I won't hold back!"
Venti picked up the wine bottle, opened it, and began gulping it down in massive swigs.
The fine wine slid down his throat, leaving Venti feeling refreshed. However, instead of his usual tipsy demeanor, he appeared calm and composed.
"My friend, coming all this way to see me, I doubt it's just for a casual visit, is it?"
"Naturally not."
Felina smiled. "I wish to obtain the Anemo Gnosis, and for that, I've come to make a deal with you."
Hearing Felina's desire for the Anemo Gnosis, Venti's expression shifted subtly.
"May I ask, what do you intend to do with the Gnosis?"
Felina didn't hide her intentions. She replied directly, "I assume you've heard something about Fontaine's predicament. The crisis foretold by the prophecy—I won't elaborate on that."
"You should be able to feel it, right? This world isn't as stable as it seems."
"According to reports from my familiars, unexplained contamination is already appearing across Fontaine. While this contamination is subtle and hard to detect now, there will come a day when it spirals out of control."
"I believe you know what I'm referring to, and this situation isn't unique to Fontaine."
After Felina finished speaking, Venti's expression grew visibly more serious.
He, of course, knew exactly what Felina was alluding to.
This world is not as solid as it appears.
Five hundred years ago, the calamity that erupted in Khaenri'ah swept across the entire world. On the surface, it seemed that the nations of Teyvat had triumphed over the power of the Abyss.
But in truth, that war couldn't be called a victory. The sacrifices and struggles of countless people five hundred years ago merely pushed the forces of the Abyss out of sight, banishing them beyond the visible borders of the continent.
To this day, the Chasm continues to ooze dark mud.
For five centuries, the people of Natlan have fought tirelessly against the Abyss. This is why Natlan is known as the "Nation of War"—their battle against the Abyss has never ceased.
Beasts such as Rifthounds, creatures emblematic of the Abyss, continue to roam across the continent.
All of this points to one fact: over the past five centuries, the power of the Abyss has been persistently eroding this land, aiming to extinguish all life on the continent.
According to the tests conducted by the Oceanid familiars, even the waters of Fontaine now show signs of contamination by the power of the Abyss.
Meanwhile, in Mondstadt, Venti had also felt the instability in space. Creatures like Rifthounds, spawned from the Abyss, had recently begun appearing in Mondstadt as well.
All these signs indicate that a calamity akin to the one five hundred years ago—Cataclysm—is destined to strike Teyvat once again. And this time, it's not far off.
To draw a comparison, it's as if, five centuries ago, humanity managed to drive the Abyss out the door. Yet for these five hundred years, the Abyss has been battering that door, trying to break it down and invade their home again to annihilate everyone inside.
"The prophetic crisis in Fontaine remains unresolved, and now the disaster of the Abyss is drawing near."
Felina frowned. "Amidst internal strife and external threats, I need more power to protect those I love and my nation. That's why I need the power of the Gnosis!"
"I see."
After listening to Felina's explanation, Venti nodded.
"I understand your needs. However, since you mentioned this is a trade, what would I gain in return?"
Venti's question hit the core of the matter.
Felina immediately responded, laying out her terms.
To ensure the success of the trade, the best strategy was to understand what the other party needed. So, what did Venti want?
This required a clear understanding of Mondstadt's current situation.
Mondstadt's situation was equally complex.
First, there was the threat of the Abyss Order. Even in the game, the Abyss Order had launched multiple assaults on Mondstadt, let alone the countless threats they had posed to the city over the years.
Then, there was the ongoing dragon disaster.
Dvalin was a familiar of the Anemo Archon, and Mondstadt was the Archon's domain.
As a god, Venti naturally didn't want his familiar and his people to turn against each other, as it would harm both sides.
For this reason, Venti had always sought to resolve the dragon disaster in the most peaceful way possible.
Lastly, there was the looming Abyss catastrophe.
Even with the well-equipped Knights of Favonius, facing such a disaster would be a near-impossible battle. Moreover, the current Grand Master of the Knights had taken most of their forces away.
The Knights of Favonius now only had enough manpower to barely maintain Mondstadt's stability. If the Abyss catastrophe were to strike suddenly, how could Mondstadt defend itself?
Understanding Venti's and Mondstadt's current predicaments and needs made preparing the terms of the trade much easier.
"I can offer the following in exchange."
"First, I will help Mondstadt permanently eradicate the Abyss Order's disturbances."
"Second, I will aid Dvalin in breaking free from his corruption and curse, granting him freedom and easing his relationship with the people of Mondstadt, thus resolving the dragon disaster."
"Third, I can help Mondstadt establish an Arkhe Reactor power plant to provide the city with nearly limitless energy, accelerating Mondstadt's development."
"Fourth, I can grant Mondstadt the rights to purchase combat-oriented clockwork automatons, various firearms, rocket launchers, and short-range Arkhe missiles. Mondstadt can procure these as needed to enhance its military strength and prepare for the potential disaster."
After speaking, Felina pulled out a stack of documents and introduced Venti to the features, functionality, and destructive power of the combat-oriented clockwork automatons, firearms, rocket launchers, and missiles.
Venti, engrossed, even forgot about his wine as he studied the materials seriously.
"Alright, I agree to your trade."
After a long moment, Venti nodded.
"My friend, thank you for coming and helping us resolve this urgent crisis."
Although he had not personally verified the advanced weapons and clockwork mechanisms from Fontaine and could not confirm their authenticity, it didn't matter.
Helping to eliminate the Abyss Order, rescuing Dvalin to end the dragon disaster, and constructing a power plant for Mondstadt—just these three terms alone were enough in Venti's eyes to justify trading his Gnosis.
As for the fourth term, granting the right to purchase weapons and machines, that could wait until the Knights of Favonius conducted an on-site investigation in Fontaine and decided whether to proceed with the purchases.
Unexpectedly, to demonstrate her sincerity in collaboration, Felina had already arranged for approximately two hundred rocket launchers to be delivered.
After Venti agreed to the trade, Felina ordered the batch of rockets to be secretly transported into Mondstadt at night and presented to the Knights of Favonius as trial units.
After Jean and the upper ranks of the Knights tested two of the rocket launchers, they were amazed by their power and had already begun planning to visit Fontaine after the events concluded.
Whether it was procuring military supplies or constructing the power plant, those were concerns for later.
For now, the focus was on rescuing Dvalin, resolving the misunderstandings between Dvalin and the people of Mondstadt, and eliminating the Abyss Order, which constantly threatened Mondstadt's safety.
Thus, Felina, Venti, and the Knights of Favonius joined forces to formulate a plan.
After discussions, Felina determined that, since Lumine was Aether's sister, the best approach was to use Lumine to lure Aether and the Abyss forces behind him into the open.
Since the dragon disaster had already begun, based on the progression of events, the Traveler was expected to arrive in Mondstadt soon.
Felina deployed a Oceanid familiar to lie in wait at the beach where the Traveler first appeared in the game.
When Paimon and Lumine arrived at the beach, the Oceanid hidden in the water immediately reported back to Felina. Felina then positioned herself along their path, ensuring she met Lumine and Paimon in advance.
By not disrupting the narrative, Venti conveniently found an opportunity to interact with Dvalin on that same day.
Felina instructed Venti to proceed as he originally intended, so he went ahead, attempting to soothe Dvalin and ease its pain.
As expected, Lumine and Paimon arrived just in time to interrupt Venti's efforts to comfort Dvalin.
Following the story's progression, Lumine and Paimon then met Amber and were led to a Hilichurl camp along the way.
Felina had preemptively cleared out the Hilichurls in that camp and replaced them with her Oceanid familiars, who transformed to look like Hilichurls.
When Amber led Lumine and Paimon past the camp, the disguised "Hilichurls" rushed out and began bowing to Lumine.
Everything unfolded just as in the storyline, progressing smoothly.
When they reached Mondstadt, the events continued according to the plot, with Dvalin creating a storm to attack Mondstadt.
