Chapter 234: A Quick Little Outing
"So there's more..." Michael put on a small smile as he stared at the gate where three individuals wearing their respective sect robes walked through.
Each one of them was a Tier 4 powerhouse, yet in the end, they were people he couldn't beat.
Nonetheless, since he had devoted himself to being civil for at least the next couple of minutes, he walked up to them and introduced himself.
"Greetings, Elders, I am glad you could make it."
"Of course, you think we would miss our disciples ruining your sect once and for all?" The plum blossom elder stated, earning a chuckle from the others around.
While at the same time, making a frown form on Michael's face.
'These people are all unreasonable idiots, I see.' He sighed, but there was no point in making a ruckus with them.
After all, they were a bit more important than the lowly disciples he had met earlier.
Therefore, he would escort them to their quarters, ones he had bought just in case. "Come with me."
They followed along, taking peeks at the surrounding Golden Dragon sect disciples, who were either training sloppily or simply talking amongst themselves.
Once again, that earned a bout of laughter from these stuck-up elders, which Michael would likely have a talk with after this tournament was over.
Or perhaps, he might just use his win as an excuse to beat the shit out of them.
Yeah, beat innocents who are oh so worried about you and your failing sect. You can see their perspective, can't you? the system remarked.
'You mean their perspective of looking down on others and being snarky about it? I know what you mean.' He replied with a scoff and finally arrived in front of a fancier pavilion.
"Go ahead and make yourselves comfortable," Michael gestured toward them with an unamused look and opened the pavilion doors.
Immediately, the sight of a few nude females entered their eyes, which seemed to be enough of a distraction for Michael to make his way out of there.
"Enjoy." With those words, he went toward the massive platform he had hired the builders to build, and, without a moment's notice, took a deep breath.
The system had informed him of a few things, one of them being the way to increase his mana core progress faster.
And that was by doing something stupid.
Summoning his wings and blasting off, Michael flew upwards as far as he could.
After just a few short moments, he stopped as his blood began to slightly boil, signaling that he had reached space.
But to his surprise, it wasn't as bad as he thought; breathing was still possible, and aside from his blood boiling and vision blurring, everything was fine.
He had an extremely overpowered healing factor which completely negated the space vacuum's effects.
However, he wasn't planning on gathering mana here. Instead, he glanced toward the left, where a star stood, shining brightly and emitting a certain heat that just barely grazed him.
'Are you sure I won't die?'
50/50, the system replied nonchalantly, making him halt in place.
'So I'm either going to die or not? Is that what you mean?' Michael questioned with a raised brow.
Nonetheless, he proceeded forward. There were a couple of planets along the way that he could land on if need be.
But so far, all seemed well, aside from the system's confirmation, which stated he only had a 50% chance of living.
And he soon understood why.
As he approached the sun, which was even bigger than the one in his original world, he began to feel the heat.
It was enough to make him melt from the inside, yet due to his healing factor, it was just barely bearable.
Yet while he was up here, Michael had gotten a strange idea.
'Is there only one universe?' he questioned.
That I know of, yeah. No one has ever reached the end of this one, so it's really hard to tell. The only people who would know are likely the Watchers.
'Can't really go ahead and ask them now, though, can we?' Michael sighed.
But it was not totally a dud.
If he could somehow find his way, he might be able to find his old world, and just maybe, even see his father.
It was not exactly a longing feeling, since Michael was aware he had left him with barely any regrets.
Alas, if the possibility was there, he could most definitely try to accomplish it.
However, as his thoughts were stirring, the system interjected. I don't mean to burst your bubble. But by the time you make it to wherever your previous world is, or even get its general location, decades would pass.
'I mean, I'm flying pretty fast, I would say?' Michael stated before taking a glance behind himself.
He could see the world he had flown out of, and it was much larger than the ones around.
If he had to estimate, it was roughly 1/10 the size of the sun he was heading towards.
However, he soon halted, as stretching out his hand, it visibly melted.
'I can't go further,' he stated, and without further ado, began channeling his mana all around himself, trying to alleviate the pain that he was feeling.
Immediately, the effects he felt were much greater than what he had achieved back in Astraea's world.
The progress bar was increasing nearly every 10 minutes until eventually, his mana entered critical levels.
That was when the system materialized as Mikhail and began holding the halo in one hand, while taking hold of Michael's head with the other.
"Relax."
"Sur-UGH" Michael attempted to speak, but his throat immediately closed up since he had forgotten to reinforce it with mana, making sure the heat did not affect it.
"Idiot..." Mikhail let out a sigh and placed his hand on Michael's neck, immediately restoring his throat to its former condition.
Just this time, he made sure to be careful; he didn't want to accidentally kill himself in space. It would be quite embarrassing.
Nonetheless, he let his body be enveloped by Mikhail's mana, and soon, he felt a relieved sensation in his mind.
"Is it working?" Michael questioned, his eyes a bit too blurry to see his status screen clearly.
"What do you think?" Mikhail replied in a tone practically questioning his intelligence.
"Well... I am not feeling stronger, just a bit more... free? I guess?"
Mikhail proceeded to tap the halo on Michael's head before saying, "Don't you think that's what it means to be stronger? More free?"
"Just finish this already and bring me further from the sun." Michael exhaled an exhausted sigh, and soon, the process seemingly quickened.
"Hey!" he exclaimed, but Mikhail did not listen, merely speeding up the process to the point where Michael could see his own bones appear.
Yet before it could get too out of hand, he suddenly pushed off, glaring at Mikhail.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Mikhail shrugged obliviously, "You wanted me to finish the process faster, did you not?"
"How exactly? By completely burning my skin off? By turning my bones into dust? Is that really the method you are going for?" Michael shot back.
"You know that's not the case. The only reason you are burning is because your mana is rejecting the sun's heat," Mikhail explained before continuing.
"I've already used 110% of the Halo's mana to keep you alive, 115% now. You are wasting it, so come over here already."
Michael was starting to regret this little arrangement of theirs, since at first, he thought that getting stronger quicker would be fine.
But now, he would need to provide the system with over 100% of his mana daily, which was a bit of a hard bargain considering he would need it.
Alas, it was either that or not getting stronger, so naturally, he came back to the system, waiting for it to finish gathering the rest of the mana. Continue reading stories on empire
It only took a couple more seconds, and soon, Michael was suddenly pushed away, very far away from the sun, nearly crashing into a nearby asteroid.
With that, he also saw a streak of light, heading toward him, followed by the halo right behind it.
"Dodge," the system warned, but before he could even react, the halo collided with his face, making him accidentally shatter the asteroid he was on.
"Pfft..." he let out a laugh, and without further wait, opened up his status.
