"Ha!"
Sasuke chuckled lightly, extending his right hand. An exaggerated blade of lightning formed, flipping as he pursued Deidara.
"Dammit!"
Though Deidara appeared flustered, his movements were composed. He threw another clay bird with precision.
With a 'boom', the white clay bird expanded, grabbing Deidara by the shoulder and ascending into the sky.
Sasuke remained unfazed, bringing the lightning blade down toward Sasori.
At this moment, Sasori's nimble tail was wrapped around a female ninja, who appeared to be the Jinchūriki of the Seven-Tails. The black face covering slipped off her face, revealing her wide-open mouth.
'Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!'
A storm of kunai and poison needles shot from Sasori's mouth, hurtling toward Sasuke.
Simultaneously, numerous small white spheres rained down from above, covering both Sasuke and Neji's positions.
"Tsk!"
Sasuke shortened the lightning blade in his hand, swinging it rapidly to deflect the kunai and needles.
"Neji, come here!"
Hearing this, Neji immediately used body flicker to move closer.
Sasuke's eyes displayed intricate patterns as he formed hand seals the moment Neji approached his side.
The white spheres on the ground transformed into simplistic clay spiders, swarming toward the pair in droves.
From the sky, Deidara, now held aloft by his clay bird, also formed hand seals.
"Ha!"
"Susanoo!"
'Boom! Boom! Boom!'
Explosions lit up the area in fiery flashes.
A massive, half-formed purple skeletal figure appeared from thin air, shielding Sasuke and Neji effortlessly from the projectiles and explosions.
"Annoying. Let's end this quickly," Sasuke said impatiently, increasing the output of his ocular power.
The enormous skeletal figure sprouted flesh and tendons. It donned thick armor and formed a massive bow and arrow in its hands.
"Amaterasu!"
Black flames erupted on Sasori, instantly burning away his robe. Even the massive shield on his back cracked under the intense heat.
"Kagutsuchi!"
Susanoo's bow ignited with black flames as it fired a massive arrow toward Deidara, who was now perched on his bird in midair.
At that moment, Sasori, appearing in his red-haired, human-like form, burst forth from the ground. His right hand extended, connecting to Hiruko with fine chakra threads.
Hiruko's tail detached automatically, and Sasori's right hand flicked, pulling the unconscious female ninja out just before the black flames consumed her.
In the sky, Deidara once again abandoned his bird, narrowly avoiding the arrow. The white clay bird engulfed in black flames plummeted from the sky.
Susanoo immediately drew another arrow and fired it toward Sasori.
In response, Sasori swiftly unrolled a scroll, summoning the Third Kazekage puppet.
"Magnet Release: Iron Sand!"
A massive wave of black iron sand surged forward, compacting into a large cube in front of the black-flamed arrow.
'Boom!'
The arrow struck the cube, creating a powerful explosion. Black flames flared and split the iron sand apart.
Deidara, riding a massive clay bird, flew by Sasori, who leapt onto the bird's back with the unconscious ninja and the Third Kazekage puppet in tow. The clay bird swiftly ascended into the sky.
"Tsk, this kid's getting more troublesome," Deidara muttered irritably, glancing at the massive Susanoo. "Sasori?"
"Let's go! Uchiha Sasuke isn't part of our mission," Sasori decided. "The Jinchūriki is too valuable to risk."
"They're retreating?" Neji asked, looking up at the ascending clay bird. "What's their deal?"
"Hah!" Sasuke was furious. "First, they come looking for trouble, and now they want to leave? Not that easy!"
'Whoosh!'
Susanoo's bow fired another massive arrow at incredible speed.
"You brat, don't push your luck!" Deidara yelled. "Try my C2!"
With a 'boom', a massive clay dragon burst through the smoke, hurtling directly at the arrow.
The dragon opened its mouth, releasing a smaller dragon.
Deidara formed hand seals and shouted loudly.
The larger dragon intercepted the arrow, exploding on impact, while the smaller one twisted and dove toward the ground.
Sasuke reacted swiftly, using Susanoo's disc-shaped bow to strike the smaller dragon midair.
Meanwhile, several four-winged clay birds descended at greater speed, surrounding Susanoo completely.
"Ha!"
Explosions erupted around Susanoo, obscuring Sasuke's vision with smoke and fire.
"They're gone," Neji informed him, unaffected by the visual disruption.
"Tsk!"
As the smoke and dust cleared, Sasuke retracted Susanoo with a displeased look.
"Let's go."
Glancing at the retreating clay bird, Sasuke turned decisively and continued eastward.
"You should've let me join earlier," Neji said, catching up. "We might've been able to stop them."
"You wouldn't stand a chance against those two!" Sasuke retorted bluntly. "If you got captured, it'd be a liability for me."
"I wouldn't get caught!" Neji scowled. "I might not defeat them, but I could at least hold one of them off!"
"Fine," Sasuke replied indifferently. "Next time, I'll keep that in mind."
"As the team leader, you need to plan our strategies properly!" Neji snapped. "Instead of acting on impulse every time!"
"I've always been like this. It's you who lacks synchronization with me!" Sasuke retorted confidently.
"Synchronization takes time to develop!" Neji argued. "That's your responsibility as the leader!"
"Tsk, what a hassle." Sasuke waved off the idea. "Fine, as leader, I'll delegate strategy planning to you!"
"No way! You wouldn't even follow my instructions!" Neji refused outright.
"Then what do you want? You're worse than Naruto!" Sasuke shot back.
At least that idiot can cooperate with me in battle.
"And you're worse than Lee!" Neji countered.
"Tsk!"
"Hmph!"
The two turned their heads away from each other in mutual annoyance.
They walked in silence for a while.
Eventually, Neji spoke again. "Fine, I'll adjust to your style in future battles."
"Got it. A few more joint training sessions should do the trick," Sasuke replied.
"By the way, why is the Akatsuki after you?" Neji asked. "You're not a Jinchūriki."
"Hmph! They're just trying to extract more information about my uncle," Sasuke said dismissively. "Don't worry. They won't waste time specifically targeting me."
"We've already crossed paths with those two twice," Neji noted.
"This time was my mistake," Sasuke admitted grudgingly. "Next time, I won't let them escape!"
