Chapter 695 Detected
On the other side of the far world, in the Elf Palace, Erend and Eccar sat inside Saeldir's chamber. Aurdis also there with them.
The owner of the chamber was now go to other world but they were free to use it as they pleased. The room carried Saeldir's presence even in his absence. Bookshelves filled with ancient texts, enchanted artifacts resting on elegant wooden stands, and the faint scent of parchment and rare Elven herbs lingering in the air.
The diagram that Saeldir created before also still remain on the floor.
The three of them sat around a small table, sipping on warm Elven tea, but none of them were at ease.
Aurdis, especially, was struggling to keep her emotions in check. She held her cup with both hands, fingers gripping it a little too tightly, her blue eyes looking into some distant.
She had always known Saeldir to be capableand she had always trusted Aerchon's strength, but that didn't stop the knot of worry from tightening in her chest.
Her closest friend and her brother were now in another world. Moreover it's a world none of them knew anything about. They were hunting down an Elf as dangerous as Laston. How could she not be anxious?
Erend noticed the tension in her posture, the slight furrow of her brow, and reached out, placing a reassuring hand over hers. He then spoke in a steady and gentle voice.
"Everything will be alright, Aurdis," he said. "Saeldir and Aerchon aren't alone. They're with strong warriors. They'll handle this."
His touch and words were comforting, but Aurdis still found it hard to push away the unease in her heart.
Eccar who now leaning back in his chair with a relaxed expression nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you shouldn't worry too much. Aerchon and Saeldir aren't reckless, they know what they're doing. And besides, if anything goes wrong, we will go at once to help them."
Aurdis sighed softly, lowering her gaze to the dark surface of her tea.
"I know," she admitted. "But even if I tell myself that… my heart still feels this way."
She swirled the tea in her cup absentmindedly, letting out another quiet breath. She was trying to be strong but the fear of the unknown was something she couldn't ignore.
Erend watched Aurdis and feeling the weight of her unease settle over the room like an unseen fog. He hated seeing her lost in worry with her mind circling fears she couldn't control.
And the worst part was that he couldn't do much to ease those feelings. Words could only do so much and right now, he could tell they weren't enough.
A frustrated sigh escaped his lips as he leaned back slightly. Sitting here, waiting, doing nothing but drinking tea while the others were out there — it didn't sit right with him.
He wasn't the type to stay still when something was wrong. However, he can't intervere right now.
"We should do something," he said suddenly, breaking the silence. "Just sitting here and worrying won't help, right? What if Laston has another plan? What if he's not just focusing on that world? Shouldn't we check if there's any strange activity around here?"
Aurdis blinked, lifting her gaze to meet his eyes. She was silent for a moment as if considering his words, then she exhaled slowly and gave a small nod.
"All right," she said. "I suppose you're right. I should do everything I can from here to help them."
Determination replaced the worry in her eyes as she set her cup down and stood. Moving with purpose, she stepped toward one of the bookshelves and searching through Saeldir's neatly arranged tomes.
Her fingers brushed over the spines until she found what she was looking for. It was a thick ancient looking book bound in deep blue leather. She pulled it free and carried it to the large table in the room.
Then she turned her attention to one of Saeldir's orbs. A glass like sphere in dark color and inert for now that rested on a silver stand at the center of the table.
She placed the tome beside it and began flipping through its pages, scanning the ancient runes written within.
She then kneeling and touched the diagram that Saeldir had drawn on the floor before he left. The markings still pulsed faintly with residual Magic from a network of energy carefully crafted from Saeldir's spellcasting before.
Closing her eyes, Aurdis murmured a soft incantation, tracing her fingers along the runes. The energy responded and flickering to life in thin golden lines that traveled from the diagram to her fingertips.
Then, with a precise motion, she guided that energy toward the orb.
A soft sound filled the air as the Magic flowed into it, causing the sphere to glow faintly. The light inside it swirled like mist caught in a current, shifting and gathering as Aurdis focused.
"Search for any similar traces of Magic around the world," she commanded softly.
The orb pulsed in response, its glow intensifying before settling into a steady rhythm. The spell had taken effect and now all they had to do was wait for the results.
Aurdis remained standing by the table. Her hands resting lightly on the tome as she watched the orb.
Though she had taken action, her thoughts still lingered on Saeldir and Aerchon.
At least now, she was doing something. At least she had a way to help.
After that, Erend, Eccar, and Aurdis waited in silence and watching the orb as it pulsed with a soft glow.
The room was filled only with the faint hum of Magic still lingering in the air from the spell Aurdis had cast. Minutes passed but nothing changed. The swirling mist inside the orb remained undisturbed, giving no sign of any strange activity elsewhere in the world.
Eccar let out a breath and leaned back in his chair, arms crossed.
"Seems like there's nothing," he muttered. "Maybe Laston really is focusing everything to prepare on that world."
Aurdis, still standing by the table, exhaled deeply. She hadn't realized how tense she was until now.
Slowly, she allowed herself to relax, the weight of uncertainty easing just a little. If the orb found nothing, that meant there was no immediate threat elsewhere, at least for now.
"That's a relief," she murmured, her voice softer than before. She glanced at Erend and Eccar, about to say something else, when suddenly—
The orb let out a sharp beep.
All three of them snapped their heads toward it. The glow within the sphere flickered erratically, the mist inside twisting violently as if something had disturbed the flow of Magic.
A faint vibration ran through the table, the air around them suddenly heavy with energy.
Aurdis immediately turned back to the tome, her fingers scanning the ancient runes to interpret what the orb had detected. Erend and Eccar stood up, both instinctively on guard.
"What is it?" Erend asked, eyes locked onto the shifting light within the orb.
Aurdis didn't answer right away. Her blue eyes narrowed to the symbols on the pages.
"The… trace of the same Magic," Aurdis said. "It happened somewhere else."
