Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Work, Work and Work
It was getting late that day, so we decided to stay at a local hotel.
It wasn't a luxury hotel, but I still ended up being put in a suite.
"We will make sure that Miss Marderita is safe!"
A very spirited uncle of the local police saluted and left the room.
It's tough when I'm here, everyone has to work harder.
I jump into the bed and turn on the hotel TV.
There is a serious American debate program airing right now.
[Lina Malderita climbed Mount Washington today. She posted a photo on social media. What do you think about the intention of her action?]
I feel like I'm getting used to the moderator talking about me as if it's natural.
"I think it's an act of friendship with the Earth. I think they're trying to get to know the United States by visiting tourist spots."
The male moderator nodded at the answer of the woman sitting on the other side of the table.
"Yes, but there's more information than that. The young men who had come down the mountain with her had apparently been lost in the blizzard. He was in a life-threatening situation, but she saved him with her magic. In fact, there is a new rumor about Lina Marderita recently. There are many people who claim that every time she comes to Earth, she is helping someone else. So the program investigated, and found that there were four credible people who had said that she had helped them so far."
The screen switches to the VCR and the host continues to explain.
"The first was a boy from Altoona, Pennsylvania. He broke his leg playing football, ending his playing career at a young age. Then, out of nowhere, a girl appeared and magically healed his leg. Later, he found out that she was an ambassador of goodwill from outer space.
Then, in Tokyo, Japan, an aspiring actrees was cured by her. This was filmed, and valuable footage of the magical treatment is now available.
The third was Inspector Carter of the Canadian police, who had encountered Lina in Ottawa. He had his arm restored, which he had lost in a battle with the mafia several years ago.
And today is the fourth. She helped a group of young men who were lost in the snowy mountains. They all expressed their gratitude to Ms. Marderita."
"In other words, she did intentionally warp to find people in trouble on Earth?"
"That could be it. If that's the case, she's like a hero."
The moderator and the woman are having a serious discussion about the data they have studied.
Just well, that is definitely a fluke.
It helps that they're interpreting it in a good way, though.
I checked the internet on my phone and found that the news was still spreading now.
[Good news: It turns out that Lina Malderita was saving people everywhere she went.]
[The theory that she lands to random places has been changed to the theory that she flies to people in trouble.]
[Who was it that said "clunky warp machine"?]
[Sorry, it was me.]
[Lina is our goddess.]
[There"s a rumor that she appeared in Osaka before Akihabara, did anyone know who she help there?]
[There's a store near Namba that has Lina Marderita's autograph and photo. The manager said she saved the store, but wouldn't give me any details.]
Underneath the tweet was a picture of a yakitori restaurant where I had spent the night sometime ago.
[The picture looks real. The signature, what language is that?]
[I ran it through image translation, but it doesn't look like any language on Earth.]
[Looks like kids drawing, doesn't it?]
Hmm. All my destinations have been reported.
I guess it's almost impossible to hide myself.
It's finally difficult to find a way to go to Nara. I guess I'll just have to reopen myself and go there as a tourist sometime soon.
I threw away my phone and lay down on my bed.
The next day. I was traveling in the morning and was in New York in the afternoon.
"When I received the report that you made a sudden appearance on the snowy mountains, I was horrified. I tried to send out a search party, but I didn't expect you to come down on your own."
A conference room at the UN headquarters.
Mr. Skaar, the diplomat sitting opposite me, looked tired.
"I'm sorry. I'm a magician, so I can handle a certain amount of danger. So, please don't worry."
"I'm glad to hear it. But I still don't want you to be in any danger. From now on, we'll include remote areas in our search."
"Thank you very much."
The whole of North America is now covered.
It must be hard for the US police.
"How's the game selling?"
"It's going well. The second shipment sold out quickly, and we're starting the localization process for the next software release. However, the company we set up in Maldea still only has four employees, so we have to proceed little by little."
"I see. I'm sorry that I can't send someone to your side, but it can't be helped. If you have any problems with the management, I can get you a consultant. I can give you all the advice you need."
"I appreciate it."
Then I had to transfer all the magic stones I brought to the UN.
"How much we need to prevent disaster before it strikes?"
"10,000 is enough to protect an entire town from disaster. If we suddenly aim for a large-scale one, I have no track record either. I think it would be better to start with a medium scale disaster of 30,000 to 40,000."
The high-ranking officials nodded with difficult expressions at my explanation.
"Hmm. I'll leave that to the Ministry of Emergency Management, but after all, it involves magic. We would appreciate it if Miss Mardelita could be involved."
"Of course. If you can prepare a certain amount of magic stones, I'll join you."
Well, that's it for the US.
The next stop is a chartered plane to Japan.
When I arrived in Nagatacho, I was immediately greeted by the Prime Minister.
"Thank you for the continuous visits to Japan."
I nodded to the PM, who smiled and said his lines, and decided to cut in.
"Yes. I have visited Kyoto several times through my relationship with Nikkendo, and I had a chance to see a few things. Japan's ancient capitals are wonderfully atmospheric."
"Thank you very much. If you have time, I would be happy to show you around Kyoto."
Hmm, Kyoto is nice, but I prefer the prefecture underneath it.
Well, if this story goes forward, I may have a chance to visit Nara with the ancient capital connection.
At least it's a progress.
As soon as I finished greeting the government, I headed for the Tokyo office of Nikkendo.
Finally, we got down to business.
When I arrived at the branch office building, I was immediately guided to the development room.
The first thing I did was to check the localization of the retro game set.
Many of the old games are really small in terms of the number of letters. Action games, especially, are almost audio independent.
I just had to check a few screens and look at the package design, including the tetras.
As I test-played one of the games in the collection, "Super Donkyuu Kong," I was reminded of the old days.
The game, about the adventures of a gorilla and a chimpanzee, boasted outstanding animation for its time in 1994.
The music is great and the action is full of ideas.
The controls are fast, yet smooth.
This game was developed by Lewa in the United Kingdom.
It is a very excellent development company known for "The Adventures of Bandio and Zooi".
Donkyu is one of the most memorable games I've ever played on the SNES, and I couldn't help but smile.
"We will begin manufacturing the package so that it will be available next month. The next time you come to Earth, we will have the product ready for you."
"Yes, thank you very much."
The All-Star Game is steadily being prepared for release.
