Chapter 115: 114: Tokyo has fallen [I]
The city of Tokyo, renowned for its futuristic skyline and bustling streets, was a vision of chaos. Buildings that once glittered with neon lights were now reduced to rubble, and the streets were littered with overturned cars and debris.
The Chitauri invasion had arrived with overwhelming force.
Swarms of soldiers and advanced war machines poured out of the skies, bringing death and destruction. Civilians ran in terror, their cries drowned out by the constant thunder of explosions.
The X-Men had arrived to face the onslaught. Without Ororo, they were a smaller team, but every mutant on the battlefield was a force to be reckoned with. Their mission was clear: hold the line and evacuate as many civilians as possible.
The Chitauri were relentless. The basic foot soldiers, armed with plasma rifles and equipped with biomechanical armor, swarmed through the streets.
Among them were Chitauri Commandos, larger and faster than their counterparts, with integrated plasma cannons on their arms. Giant war beasts, resembling metallic dragons, roared through the skies, their tails lashing out to destroy anything in their path.
Above the chaos loomed a massive Chitauri Leviathan, its segmented body slithering through the air like a monstrous serpent.
On its back stood Corvus Glaive, one of Thanos' deadliest children. His golden armor gleamed in the firelight, and his wicked glaive crackled with energy.
Corvus surveyed the battlefield with cold, calculating eyes, issuing commands to the Chitauri with ruthless efficiency.
"Burn this city to the ground," he growled, his voice reverberating through the Chitauri hive mind. "Leave no survivors.
At the forefront of the X-Men stood Cyclops, his visor glowing with energy. Scott Summers raised his voice over the chaos, directing his team.
"Jean, focus on evacuation! Logan, you're with me on the front line! Colossus, protect the civilians! And keep an eye out for Corvus Glaive—he's here somewhere!"
Scott turned towards a swarm of Chitauri advancing on their position. With a flick of his fingers on his visor, he unleashed a powerful optic blast.
The crimson beam tore through the ranks of the Chitauri, disintegrating dozens in an instant.
"Push them back!" Scott shouted, his voice unwavering.
Jean Grey floated above the battlefield, her red hair billowing in the wind and her eyes glowing with the power of the Phoenix. She reached out with her telekinesis, lifting chunks of debris to clear paths for fleeing civilians.
"Everyone, this way!" she called, her voice calm but commanding.
A mother and her two children were trapped beneath a collapsed overpass. Jean extended her hand, lifting the massive slab of concrete as if it weighed nothing.
"Go!" she urged them, and the family ran to safety.
Suddenly, a squad of Chitauri Commandos took aim at Jean, their plasma cannons charging. Jean raised her other hand, creating a shimmering telekinetic shield that deflected the blasts. With a wave of her hand, she sent the Commandos flying backward, their bodies crashing into a nearby building.
On the ground, Wolverine was a blur of motion. Logan's claws gleamed as he tore through the Chitauri foot soldiers, his animalistic growls echoing through the streets.
"Come on, you bastards!" he snarled, his voice dripping with rage.
An Advanced Chitauri Commando lunged at him, its plasma cannon firing at close range. Logan dodged the blast and leapt onto the creature, plunging his claws into its chest. Sparks flew as the Commando's mechanical body convulsed, and Logan ripped it apart with sheer brute strength.
But the Chitauri kept coming. A war beast charged at him, its jaws snapping. Logan didn't flinch. He waited until the last second, then jumped onto the beast's head, driving his claws deep into its skull. The creature let out a final, guttural roar before collapsing.
"Is that all you've got?" Logan growled, his eyes scanning the battlefield for his next target.
Nearby, Colossus was a towering figure of steel, his metallic body gleaming under the flickering lights of Tokyo's ruined streets. He stood like a shield between the Chitauri and a group of civilians huddled behind him.
"You will not harm them," Piotr Rasputin said, his voice calm and resolute.
A squad of Chitauri Commandos fired their plasma rifles at him, but the blasts bounced harmlessly off his armored body. Colossus charged forward, his massive fists smashing through the Chitauri ranks.
One of the war beasts lunged at him, its claws aimed for his chest. Colossus caught the beast mid-air, his muscles straining as he wrestled it to the ground.
With a mighty roar, he slammed the creature into the pavement, shattering its metallic body.
High above, Corvus Glaive watched the X-Men with interest. "Impressive," he muttered. "But they will fall, like all the others."
Leaping from the Leviathan, Corvus landed gracefully on the battlefield. His glaive crackled with energy as he advanced toward the X-Men.
Cyclops was the first to notice him. "Corvus Glaive!" he shouted.
Corvus smirked. "I've heard of you, X-Men. Let's see if you're as formidable as they say."
He raised his glaive, sending a wave of dark energy hurtling toward the team. Cyclops countered with an optic blast, but the two attacks collided in mid-air, creating a shockwave that sent both men stumbling backward.
"Logan, Piotr, flank him!" Scott ordered.
Colossus and Wolverine charged at Corvus from opposite sides. Corvus spun his glaive with lightning speed, deflecting Colossus' punch and slashing at Logan. Wolverine's claws met the glaive with a metallic screech, sparks flying.
"You're strong," Corvus said, his voice filled with mock admiration. "But you're no match for the power of Thanos."
As Corvus battled Logan and Piotr, Jean Grey focused her energy on the Leviathan above. The massive creature was raining destruction on the city, and it needed to be stopped.
Jean raised both hands, her eyes glowing with Phoenix fire. A beam of telekinetic energy shot from her hands, wrapping around the Leviathan and holding it in place. The creature thrashed and roared, but Jean's power was overwhelming.
"Scott, now!" she called.
Cyclops turned his visor to full power and unleashed a massive optic blast. The beam struck the Leviathan, tearing through its armored hide. With a final, deafening roar, the creature exploded, its remains raining down on the battlefield.
The destruction of the Leviathan sent a ripple of hope through the X-Men. Even Corvus Glaive seemed momentarily distracted, giving Wolverine the opening he needed. Logan leapt at Corvus, his claws slicing through the villain's armor.
Corvus snarled in pain, but before he could retaliate, Colossus delivered a crushing punch to his side, sending him flying.
"You'll pay for that," Corvus growled, but he was clearly wounded.
As the first wave of Chitauri began to falter, the X-Men regrouped. The city was still burning, and the battle was far from over, but for the first time, they had a glimmer of hope.
Jean floated to the ground, her energy dimming as she caught her breath. Cyclops placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You did great," he said.
Jean nodded. "But it's not over yet."
