Chapter 7: chapter:7 Tremendous potential
Erika flinched, expecting punishment, something harsh to match the quiet intensity in his voice. She closed her eyes tightly, bracing herself. But then, she felt nothing. Slowly, she opened her eyes, only to see Itachi standing right in front of her, his expression soft but serious.
"You hurt me," he repeated, "by saying that you don't have anyone."
Her breath hitched in her throat as his words settled in. Her vision blurred with unshed tears, the weight of her loneliness crashing down on her. Before she could respond, Itachi smiled—a small, gentle smile that was so unlike the serious boy she had come to know.
"I've spent so much time with you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "You're dear to me, Erika."
Tears finally spilled from her eyes, and she let out a shaky breath, overcome by emotions she had long buried. "Thank you, young master..." she whispered, her voice thick with gratitude and relief.
Itachi chuckled softly. "Itachi," he corrected. "Did you forget?"
Erika wiped her eyes, managing a weak smile through her tears. "Yeah... Itachi," she repeated, her voice trembling but lighter. She wiped the last of her tears away and tried to regain her composure. "Sometimes, I feel like I'm talking to an old man," she teased, a faint laugh escaping her lips.
Itachi sweatdropped, scratching the back of his head. Yeah... basically... he thought, amused but knowing the truth behind her words.
Just as the moment of tension began to lift, Erika suddenly remembered her original task. Her eyes widened. "Oh! I almost forgot! I came here for another reason," she exclaimed, her usual calmness returning. "Mr. and Mrs. Yaoyorozu want you to get ready for your quirk assessment test."
Itachi sighed, running a hand through his hair. "So today's the day, huh?" His tone was flat, but there was an undertone of reluctance.
Erika quickly moved to his wardrobe, picking out some clothes with practiced efficiency. She handed him a black T-shirt and gray pants. "Here, put these on," she said softly.
Itachi took the clothes and changed into them without complaint, though his mind was elsewhere.
As Itachi and Erika descended the stairs, the soft sound of their footsteps echoed through the grand hallway. At the bottom, Itachi spotted his mother, Yana, elegantly dressed in a red gown adorned with delicate jewelry. She sat gracefully on the sofa, her posture regal yet warm.
Noticing her son, Yana's eyes softened. Itachi walked over to her, offering a small but genuine smile. "Good morning, Mother."
Yana looked up and smiled back, her eyes filled with pride. "Good morning, my dear," she replied warmly. "Are you ready for your quirk test today?"
Itachi nodded, his expression calm but focused.
Yana stood gracefully, smoothing out her gown. "Well then, let's go," she said with a smile, her tone gentle but laced with anticipation. She glanced over at Erika, who stood quietly nearby. "Ichikawa, if you'd like to join us, you're more than welcome."
Erika smiled softly and gave a respectful nod. "Thank you, Mrs. Yaoyorozu. I'd be honored."
As they sat in the car, Itachi stared out the window, a familiar sensation creeping into his eyes. The world outside seemed to slow down—the cars on the road, the people walking by—all moving as if in slow motion. A sense of understanding dawned on him, realizing that his Sharingan had activated. He remained calm, but leaned toward his mother.
"Mother, my eyes feel strange," he said, his voice steady.
Yana turned to her son, and the moment her gaze met his eyes, she gasped. "Itachi, your eyes… they're red!"
Across from him, Erika, equally shocked, turned to see. "Young master, your eyes—"
Feigning surprise, Itachi quickly glanced into the car's rearview mirror, catching the brief glimpse of his own reflection. His normally dark eyes glowed a vivid red with intricate patterns. Without a word, he blinked and deactivated the Sharingan, his eyes returning to normal. "I think this might be my quirk," he said, maintaining a calm facade.
Still shaken, Yana pressed her hand to her chest. "We're going to the hospital right now. We need to understand what this is."
When they arrived at the hospital, the doctor greeted them at the entrance. "Ms. Yaoyorozu, you're here for your son's quirk test?"
Yana nodded, her worry barely concealed.
The doctor knelt down to Itachi's level. "Alright, young man. Please hold out your hand. I'm going to take a small blood sample for the quirk analysis. Don't worry, it won't hurt."
Itachi extended his arm without hesitation, his face expressionless as the doctor drew the sample. The doctor smiled. "He's a brave one."
Yana looked at her son, her heart swelling with pride, though her mind was racing with questions.
After a tense wait, the doctor returned with the results, a puzzled expression on his face. "Congratulations, Ms. Yaoyorozu. It seems your son does indeed have a quirk, but it's… unique. We haven't seen anything like it in our database."
Yana's eyes widened with a mix of surprise and concern. "What does his quirk do?"
The doctor shook his head. "We're not entirely sure. It's unlike any quirk we've cataloged before."
Itachi, sensing the moment, decided to reveal just enough. "I can see everything in slow motion," he said calmly, his gaze steady. "When we were driving here, the world outside was moving slowly, and… somehow, I can predict movements before they happen."
Yana's astonishment was palpable. "You can predict movements?"
Itachi nodded, but quickly thought to himself, That's enough for now. I don't want to attract too much attention.
The doctor explained, "we got only one thing from the samples of his blood we understood that This quirk seems like it has stages of evolution. Right now, he has a single comma-like symbol in his eyes. There might be more commas in the future, making the quirk more powerful."
Yana looked at the doctor, her eyes filled with quiet determination. "So that means, as time progresses, he'll become even stronger?"
The doctor nodded. "Yes, most likely. His quirk has tremendous potential."
Yana smiled, turning her gaze toward Itachi. "You have a powerful quirk, my dear."
