Chapter 127: Hiruzen

---2 weeks after becoming hokage pov---

"It's hard to become Hokage," said Hiruzen to his friends Danzo, Koharu, and Homura.

These four were from relatively minor clans compared to the Senju, Uchiha, Hyuga, and Uzumaki clans.

They had just finished an intense meeting where the heads of other clans tried to pressure him, making it difficult for Hiruzen to introduce new rules or regulations without satisfying everyone.

Many clans, especially the Uchiha, were dissatisfied with his position as Hokage. The Uchiha clan, as co-founders of Konoha, felt overlooked, especially since Tobirama had chosen the "weak" Sarutobi over them.

After Koharu and Homura left the office, only Danzo and Hiruzen remained. Danzo looked at Hiruzen and spoke.

"Hiruzen, I have an idea," said Danzo.

"What is your idea?" asked Hiruzen.

"You will be the light, and I will be the darkness," replied Danzo.

Hiruzen's eyebrows raised in confusion at Danzo's words. "What do you mean, Danzo?" he asked.

"I have a plan. How about we create a division called Root?" Danzo suggested.

He watched Hiruzen closely, waiting for his response. Hiruzen remained silent, listening intently for more details.

"Root will be similar to Anbu but with a different purpose. Root will handle matters that Konoha can't openly deal with, like eliminating targets Anbu can't reach and conducting experiments that Anbu cannot perform. I'll operate in the shadows, while you remain in the light," Danzo explained.

"You..." Hiruzen pointed at Danzo. "If you do things in Root, people could still find out, and creating another division would be pointless."

"We have Mito-sama. She may have the ability to create a seal to ensure secrets are kept," replied Danzo.

Hearing this, Hiruzen reluctantly agreed to Danzo's suggestion to create Root.

"Hiruzen, trust me, you won't regret this," Danzo smiled after receiving confirmation to establish the Root division.

---Wood Style---

"Katori, you're awake?" asked Hiruzen, He was followed by Danzo, Homura, and Torifu to visit

Uchiha Katori didn't reply immediately. Instead, she asked, "I heard you became Hokage?"

"Yes, Tobirama-sensei appointed me as Hokage," admitted Hiruzen.

"So, you all just returned to Konoha because he offered you the position?" Katori replied in a cold voice.

"Katori, what are you implying?" Danzo said, his tone sharp, disliking the accusation in her words.

Suddenly, Katori activated her Mangekyou Sharingan. She already knew her ability could deduce a person's truthfulness based on the chakra they emitted.

"Katori," said Hiruzen. Everyone glanced at her, some even preparing for a possible fight.

"Why did you activate your Mangekyou Sharingan?" Hiruzen asked.

"Just answer me. Did you all retreat to save yourselves so you could claim the Hokage title?" Katori demanded.

"We didn't. It was Sensei's order. He wanted us to return to Konoha," Hiruzen replied.

Katori could sense that Hiruzen was only partially honest. The other reason they left was to avoid death, and Hiruzen did indeed want the Hokage position.

"34 Kumo shinobi died. If the four of you had stayed and fought, maybe Sensei and Sister Mikoto would still be alive," said Katori.

"This..."

Katori could see the guilt on their faces, mixed with a sense of relief.

Her heart broke, looking at her former classmates.

"Forget it. So, did you come here to see if I succeeded in awakening Wood Style?" Katori asked.

"Katori, that wasn't our intention. We just wanted to check on your condition," Hiruzen answered.

Once again, Katori knew he was lying. 'Sensei, Sister Mikoto... If not for your sacrifice, I'd likely kill these cowards,' she thought.

She performed the tiger seal and used Mokuton: Wood Style.

Tobirama, watching from above them, would have smiled at the success of his experiment. But it was a shame he wasn't there to govern Konoha and control Katori.

Wood emerged from the ground, though it was weaker than the First Hokage's.

"Sensei was right. We Uchiha are most suited for Wood Style injections, but even with it, defeating tailed beasts isn't easy," Katori said.

"Really?" Danzo asked.

"Compared to the First Hokage, his chakra reserves were enormous. Even though mine have increased, it's only about 1/10th of his chakra reserve," she explained.

Hiruzen then passed the scroll to Katori.

"This is the jutsu that can control the tailed beast. Can you use it?"

Katori opened the scroll and found that the jutsu was actually Sage Art: Thousand Hands Jutsu.

"No, I can't use this jutsu," Katori replied, handing the scroll back to Hiruzen.

Suddenly, Uzumaki Mito entered the ward.

"Mito-sama," Katori greeted her.

The others, noticing Mito's entrance, greeted her as well.

"Katori, how is your body?" Mito asked with concern.

"I'm fine, but the First Hokage's face is on my body," Katori replied. She sensed no malice from Mito, only genuine concern, which made her happy.

"It must be hard for you," Mito said with a gentle smile.

"Yeah, I'm afraid my future husband will be shocked when he sees the First Hokage's face on my chest," Katori joked.

Hearing this, Hiruzen coughed, and his nose even bled a little. Katori shot him an angry glare.

"Mito-sama, we wanted to check if she can perform the First Hokage's jutsu," Danzo interrupted.

"She can't, because her chakra reserves are far too small compared to my husband's," Mito replied. Her hand glowed green as she touched Katori.

"With this amount of chakra, the most powerful jutsu you can manage is Mokuton: Mokujin no Jutsu," Mito said, shaking her head.

Danzo frowned, while the others kept their expressions neutral.

"Hashirama was powerful because of his massive chakra reserves. He and Madara could fight for an entire day and still have plenty of chakra left. Wood Style is powerful, but with low chakra reserves, it's nothing."

"Katori, become my disciple," Mito said suddenly.

"Mito-sama, she has responsibilities," Danzo interjected.

Even Hiruzen frowned, wanting to oppose Mito's suggestion.

"Wood Style is a Senju kekkei genkai and now that Katori has inherited it, I want to guide her," Mito explained.

Katori's Mangekyou Sharingan only revealed Mito's sincerity, concern, and a bit of wariness towards her.

"I will, Mito-sama," Katori replied.
