Chapter 8: The Night That Changed Everything
"You seem more eager today," Hayate said as he and Shiro clashed their wooden swords.
"I have someone that I want to beat, you see."
"Beat up? It's not good to fight with your friends."
"Who said anything about fighting? I just want to become stronger than him."
"Then it's fine."
"Shadow clone jutsu."
Shiro created one clone using the Shadow clone Justu that he learned from Hayate.
"Dance of the new moon."
"Dance of the Crescent Moon."
Shiro and his shadow clone used a sword technique called the dance of the new moon.
Hayate countered it by creating two clones and using a sword technique called Dance of the Crescent Moon.
Their clones clashed swords but now Shiro was outnumbered since Hayate was able to create an extra clone.
"Enhance form." Shiro activated his Enhanced form to handle Hayate and his clone.
His enhanced form was stronger than when he first used it since he grew an extra tail compared to when he was only two years old.
Two tails enhance form giving him two times more power compared to his normal self.
He also gained extra abilities because of the two.
Possession which lasts for two seconds(nekomata's ability).
But it was pretty useless since it did not last long enough for him to do anything useful.
He also can't move when the ability is active and people who are more powerful than him are unaffected by it.
He tried to use it on Hayate but it didn't work.
The best he got was the old man from the ramen shop.
It was an ability that was outclassed by a similar hidden ability from the village.
If it lasted longer it would have been an amazing ability but the duration was too short and the not working on people that he would need to use it in battle make it particularly useless.
Despite his power from enhancement form, Hayate was still much stronger than a six-year-old boy allowing him to knock out Shiro's wooden sword.
"I win," Hayate said to Shiro.
"Need a hand," he said as he extended his hand to the boy.
"Stop that kind of wimpy act." He said as he swiped away Hayate's hand and got up without his help.
"You know showing kindness is not a weakness," Hayate said to Shiro.
"If you are going to lecture me stop. Cause I am not going to listen to your words."
"You are such a brat." He said as he smiled at Shiro.
"But I have to say you have improved a lot. I would say you are even stronger than most genins that I knew. And most of them have been shinobi for more than a decade already."
Hayate praised Shiro.
"A decade as a Genin? What failures." Shiro said but Hayate hit him in the head.
"They are people that serve the village. You can't just disrespect them like that."
He lectured Shiro.
"But you said I am stronger than them?"
"There is a difference between saying the truth and just disrespecting bluntly."
"There is no shame in being weak. You need to be stronger to protect your family and friends."
"Acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses is important for a person to grow."
"But I would rather be a weak person than a monster that only pursues strength without a care in the world."
Hayate tried to give his wisdom to Shiro but he didn't understand what he meant.
He didn't ask what Hayate wanted to say because he didn't want a lecture from him.
"Ah. Look at the time. I have to get back home to prepare my dinner." Shiro said as he started to walk away.
"Hey." Hayate tried to stop Shiro from asking him if he wanted to eat a cake for his six-year-old birthday tomorrow.
But before he could Shiro quickly ran away thinking that Hayate was going to give him a lecture if he sticks around.
Shiro grew close to Hayate since he had been training him for about four years already.
With Nana's location currently unknown, Hayate has been acting as Shiro's guardian at this point.
*****
Shiro entered his empty house.
He smiled when he saw the sword that was hanging on the wall using a katana stand.
As much as he didn't want to admit this he saw Hayate as somewhat of an older brother to him.
"I might have come off too disrespectful right now. I should try to apologise to him by giving him some food." He said.
He does not have much money so that is the only way he can show his appreciation.
And there is no way he would say the words I apologise so giving something was the best thing that he could do.
"I think I have some meat left." He said as he opened his fridge.
He saw a small portion of frozen meat not enough for two people but it was the best ingredient that he had.
"Flavor powder is also starting to run out. Along with salt and oil. Haaa. This month couldn't end soon enough." he complained but he cooked a rice box for Hayate using all the indigents that he had.
For his meal, he breaks some readymade noodles in half.
And boil them using lots of water and half of the flavour packet that comes from the noodles packet.
It was not delicious because the flavour from the flavour packets was diluted because of the large amount of water but it was able to fill him up.
*****
That night.
"What is this?" Sasuke said as he looked at countless numbers of corpses that were near his house.
He was running late because he was training late into the night but he was not expecting to see the scene that he was seeing right now.
He noticed that all of them had the Uchiha clan mark on their clothing.
He quickly ran towards his house to check on his father, mother and brother.
There is a bad feeling about this. He thought in his mind.
He entered the house but everything was quiet and dark.
He ran towards the room where his father usually stays in.
When he opened the door, he saw his father and mother lying on the ground among the pile of blood.
Someone familiar to him was also standing near them.
It was his brother.
