-------------------------------------------------------------
This sudden turn of events left the Iwagakure and Sunagakure shinobi present visibly stunned.
"Retreat!"
The Iwagakure commander shouted in a deep voice.
However, even though his orders were clear, the rapidly spreading branches made escape impossible.
"Swish!" "Swish!" "Swish!"
In mere moments, several Iwagakure shinobi who couldn't evade in time were struck by the massive tree branches. Their bodies were violently flung to the ground, lifeless.
The remaining Iwagakure shinobi, lucky enough to avoid the initial assault, retreated to distant tree trunks. Their faces were pale as they glanced nervously at the chaotic, dust-filled battlefield.
The others were similarly cautious, their eyes fixed on the smoke-filled area where the attack originated.
Within the protective shield formed by these sudden, massive trees, the surviving Konoha shinobi looked up in awe.
"What... what is this?!" one young Konoha shinobi stammered.
"I don't know, but it must mean reinforcements from the village have arrived to save us!" guessed a slightly older shinobi, trying to maintain his composure.
The other Konoha shinobi stared at the giant trees that had saved them, their minds racing with disbelief and gratitude.
As the dust gradually settled, the battlefield became clearer to everyone.
Under the pale moonlight, at the center of the cracked and upturned ground, a massive semi-circular dome of intertwining tree trunks towered over the Konoha shinobi. The sturdy wood bore deep scars from the Iwagakure's earlier jutsu.
Not far from the wooden dome stood a tall figure.
"Look over there!" one of the Iwagakure shinobi exclaimed, pointing.
Hearing this, the others turned to see a tall young man in black-and-white attire. He stood calmly, hands clasped together, clearly the one who had summoned the enormous trees.
His brown hair was swept back, with a few strands falling over his forehead, and his deep brown eyes radiated a sense of resolve and tranquility.
The young man's unshaken demeanor as he faced the Iwagakure forces drew attention from both sides.
"Who is that?!" a Konoha shinobi exclaimed in shock.
"Strange… he's not from Konoha. What's with that outfit?" the older shinobi muttered, frowning.
At that moment, a young kunoichi beside him squinted at the figure, her expression shifting as though something familiar surfaced in her memory.
"This is strange… he looks so familiar. It's like I've seen him somewhere before," she murmured.
"What are you talking about, Shimei? Familiar? Where would you have seen someone like him?" the senior shinobi asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Captain Daiku, don't you feel it too? Doesn't he seem… familiar?" Shimei pressed, still deep in thought.
The younger shinobi nearby also paused, their faces lighting up with recognition.
"Now that Shimei mentions it, I feel like I've seen him somewhere too! But I just can't remember where..." one said, frowning in frustration.
As they spoke, Captain Daiku scrutinized the distant figure. He too began to feel a strange sense of déjà vu. Suddenly, as if struck by lightning, a thought flashed through his mind.
His eyes widened, and his mouth fell open in disbelief. Trembling, he muttered
"It's... it's... the First Hokage!"
Meanwhile, on the Iwagakure side, the shinobi's expressions grew grim.
Standing beside the Iwagakure captain, a subordinate whispered in a tense voice, "Captain, that's one of the members of the Hollow Palace. What do we do?"
The captain's face darkened, his sharp gaze glinting as he replied
"Iwagakure already holds the upper hand in this war. We don't need the Hollow Palace interfering. Besides, according to the Tsuchikage's orders, the Hollow Palace will likely become our enemy in the future. If he's stopping us now, we should take this opportunity to eliminate him!"
The other Iwagakure shinobi nodded solemnly despite their heavy hearts. Though the opponent was formidable, removing him was essential for their village's success.
With the captain's silent approval, the Iwagakure shinobi launched their attack.
"Swish!" "Swish!" "Swish!"
Amid the night breeze, several figures vanished into the shadows, swiftly closing in on the target.
"Earth Style Rock Lodging Destruction!"
"Earth Style Earth Mausoleum Dumpling!"
"Earth Style Swamp of the Underworld!"
Faced with an onslaught of jutsu and projectiles, the young man remained unfazed. He formed seals and murmured
"Wood Style Wooden Dome Wall."
Massive tree trunks erupted from the ground, interlocking above his head like a sturdy bridge.
"Crash!" "Crash!"
The incoming attacks smashed into the wooden structure, their force dispersed.
As he prepared to move, the young man's eyes sharpened.
"Whoosh!"
Several Iwagakure shinobi emerged from beneath the ground behind him, their hands already forming seals.
"Earth Style Falling Cover!"
"Earth Style Ant Hell!"
A massive boulder, over ten meters wide, descended from above, while the ground beneath his feet turned to quicksand, throwing him off balance.
The Iwagakure shinobi smirked, certain of their success.
Their seamless teamwork had claimed countless victims. No one had survived this combined assault before.
Yet the young man showed no trace of panic. His gaze grew colder as he swiftly formed seals.
"Wood Style Adamantine Binding Trees!"
The ground trembled violently.
"Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!"
Massive tree trunks, each several meters thick, erupted upward, shattering the descending boulder and trapping several Iwagakure shinobi.
Standing atop one of the enormous trees, the young man calmly observed the battlefield.
With another series of seals, he declared
"Wood Style Cutting Sprigs!"
From the surrounding trees, thorny vines as thick as arms emerged, piercing through the trapped Iwagakure shinobi.
Blood sprayed across the towering trees as the lifeless bodies fell into the shadows below.
The remaining Iwagakure shinobi shuddered in terror. Even their strongest comrades had been effortlessly annihilated by this mysterious figure.
Among the Konoha shinobi, Captain Daiku muttered in awe
"It's unmistakable… this is the legendary Wood Style. It's the power of the First Hokage!"
