Chapter 252: Omake 3. Ocult record: Mermaid.
( Arata's POV )
The day after the sudden family trip my mother decided to take me on, I slept late and while i was half asleep i walked to the kitchen to grab a snack but i stopped when i saw the girl from the other day inside the house.
Arata: eh... Morning?
Sun: G-Good morning.
Arata: What are you doing here?
Sun: My mother came to visit early, she talked to your mother for a bit and then they went for a walk, I stayed so you wouldn't wake up alone.
I guess she had a lot to talk about with her old friend.
Arata: Thanks, but you didn't have to go to the trouble.
Sun: Well, I wanted to talk to you too.
True, I guess we qualify as old friends too.
Arata: Listen about that thing about not remembering you, it's not just you ok, there are several things from my early years that I can't remember.
Sun: Don't worry, I understand.
Arata: I couldn't even introduce myself properly the other day, Shirogane Arata, nice to meet you... Again.
Sun: Mine is Seto sun, please take care of me.
After introducing myself again, I was able to talk to Sun more normally and we did a lot of that while she showed me around the town.
There wasn't much to see in this small town, the beach is definitely the main attraction around here but we didn't go there, she said she didn't feel like swimming today and after what happened the other day I agreed with her.
Sun: I'm sorry, this place is probably not as interesting as a big city.
Arata: big city is just more shops and more people, the tranquility of this place is not bad, I bet I loved this place when I was little.
Sun: you used to do it, you know in a few days there will be a festival that we used to go to together, would you like to go with me again.
Arata: yes, sounds good, it's a date.
After spending some time with Sun I returned home where my mother again required my help for her supernatural research and just like every other time that didn't give any results, at least when i told her about my "date" with sun she forgot about that stuff.
/////////////////////
On the day of the festival I was waiting for Sun but at the same time I could feel many eyes on me, but I guess I just have some nerves getting to me, my appearance attracts attention in the city and I'm a new face around here.
After putting my nerves aside I saw Sun approaching, she was wearing a yukata and with that I could appreciate how pretty she was, so much so that it seemed strange to me that no one else was spending this festival with her.
Sun: Hi Arata, sorry I'm late.
Arata: That's nothing, you look fine.
Sun: Um, t-thanks.
I enjoyed my time with Sun and the food was good too, that was important to me but every time we approached a stall I felt people glaring at me, I blamed my nerves again but Sun suggested we get away from the crowd.
Sun: Arata, could you talk a little more about life in the city?
Arata: You are very interested in that, have you never visited a city?
Sun: I have visited a few before but my father can be very overprotective at times, he never let me explore the city, but that will change when-ahg.
While we were talking, Sun suddenly tripped over a bucket of water, and I moved in front of her to catch her.
Arata: Are you okay?
Sun: I can't stand up.
While she was in my arms Sun told me she couldn't stand up and when I looked down I saw that her legs were replaced by a fish tail, That was unexpected and I stared straight into Sun's eyes in confusion for a moment, but we were interrupted when I heard footsteps coming towards us.
I picked up Sun and started running to a place behind the temple away from prying eyes, and when we were safe, I put Sun on the ground and I caught my breath.
Arata: huff I think we'll be safe here.
Sun: ...why did you do that?
Arata: Shouldn't I? Don't tell me that everyone in this town is like you? I can't believe that my mother was right about mermaids.
Sun: It's not that, aren't you scared of me?
Arata: eh? I guess I didn't have time to think, I'm surprised that's for sure but you're still you, an old friend that I want to know again, I can put this in one of the things I know about you.
Sun: hehe You haven't changed at all in these years.
Arata: I guess I'll have to take your word for it but more importantly how do we get your legs back, You're not going to stay like this forever, are you?
Sun: I need to dry my tail and my legs should return to normal.
With nothing else at hand, I took off my shirt and began drying her tail.
Sun: anhh Arata be more gentle.
Arata: sorry, I'll be more careful.
The position we were in and the sounds she was making might give the idea that we were doing something different but I tried to concentrate on the task at hand, When I finished, Sun's legs transformed as if by magic and we both let out a sigh of relief.
We remained in that compromising position and as we looked into each other's eyes our heads began to move closer to each other.
???: oh you guys are taking things too fast.
Hearing a voice we quickly separated and I was surprised to see Sun's mother looking over at us with a smile on her face, certainly not the attitude I expected from a mother but she is a friend of my mother so it is not that surprising.
Arata: This is not what it seems.
