Chapter 8: Sonic VS Racer
Sonic's POV
After passing through the portal ring, Natsu, Gray, Lucy, and I arrived at the cave where the Oración Seis were hiding.
Natsu charged in first, unleashing a Fire Dragon Iron Fist on Brain. Brain blocked with his staff, causing a cloud of smoke to fill the area. Natsu emerged carrying our three unconscious friends, then leaped across the river to join us. Racer emerged from the cave, rushing toward us, but Gray quickly erected an ice barrier, halting his advance.
Gray: "Go ahead; I'll hold him off."
Me: "We'll handle him together. You go."
Gray: "Sonic?"
Me: "He's as fast as me, and we have a score to settle. Natsu, Lucy, get out of here and make sure they're safe."
I clenched my fist, causing a bright light to emit from it. As I opened my hand, another portal ring appeared. Without hesitation, I threw it under Natsu and Lucy's feet. The ring expanded, transporting them elsewhere, far from danger. However, creating that portal drained nearly all of my magic. Still, I could fight.
Reverting to my hedgehog form, I readied myself. Racer, perched on the edge of the ice barrier, lunged toward us. Gray launched icicle shards at him, but Racer teleported behind Gray and delivered a back kick, sending him flying about eight meters away from me.
Seizing the opportunity, I charged at Racer with a lightning-infused punch. He dodged the first strike but got hit by the second. Increasing his speed, he became a blur, landing multiple blows while I could only block. Gray sent an ice tiger toward him, which Racer shattered in seconds. Using the distraction, I executed a homing lightning attack, striking Racer and slamming him into a tree.
Racer: "Now this is getting interesting."
He whistled, and the sound of engines approached. Five green motorcycles, each adorned with shark designs, surrounded us. Racer hopped onto one and revved the engine.
Me (annoyed): "Seriously? I expected a pack of wild beasts, not ghost bikes."
The motorcycles began circling us. One grazed past me, then another clipped Gray. I tried jumping onto one, forgetting my motion sickness. I stumbled off, disoriented.
Gray: "This is not the time to be out cold!"
One of the bikes hit Gray, sending him flying. He retaliated by summoning ice stalagmites that launched the bikes into the air, except for Racer's.
Gray: "Get up, Sonic. We need to chase him!"
Me (shaking off dizziness): "Ugh, my head... He's not getting away."
Boosting forward, I left Gray behind.
Gray's POV
Did he seriously just leave me here? I looked around and spotted one of the bikes with an SE Plug on its handle. The SE Plug allowed mages to power devices with their magic. I jumped on the bike, connected my bracelet, and sped off in pursuit.
On the way, I found Leon and Sherry in a clearing.
Me: "Leon, I need your help."
Leon (confused): "What's going on?"
Me: "No time to explain. Get on."
Leon hopped on, and Sherry called out.
Sherry: "Mr. Leon, you're leaving?"
Leon: "Sorry, Sherry. Try to find the others."
We rode off, catching up to Sonic and Racer after six minutes. Sonic was running at full speed, neck-and-neck with Racer, who was still on his bike.
Me: "Leon, can you attack? I can't while driving."
Leon (removing his top): "Leave it to me."
For the first time, Leon used both hands to cast his magic.
Me: "You're using both hands now?"
Leon: "I'd shame Ul if I didn't."
He summoned ice eagles, sending them toward Racer. Racer teleported, leaving his bike destroyed. Sonic stopped and ran toward us as Racer suddenly appeared behind, knocking Leon and me off the bike.
Sonic's POV
I exchanged blows with Racer, our speeds making it seem like we were teleporting. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Leon freezing Gray.
Me (confused): "Leon, what are you doing?"
Leon: "He was in my way."
Me: "Seriously? What are you two even doing here if you can't keep up with him?"
Leon conjured a giant ice tiger, but Racer destroyed it in seconds, continuing his pursuit of Leon.
Reaching a cliff edge, Leon stopped and waited. Racer and I closed in, running side by side. I tripped Racer and rolled toward Leon.
Me: "So, what now?"
Leon: "We wait."
Gray, freed from the ice, shot an arrow from afar, striking Racer. He collapsed but got back up, revealing a bomb strapped to his chest.
Leon prepared to charge, but I froze time, pushing Racer off the cliff. Exhausted, I returned to Leon's side as time resumed. Racer fell, and the explosion echoed below.
Sherry: "What just happened?"
Me: "You're welcome. I stopped Leon from sacrificing himself."
Gray (smiling): "Classic Sonic."
I handed Gray his jacket.
Me: "Put this on; no one wants to see your abs. Let's find the others."
When I tried creating a portal, my magic gave out. Gray helped me up.
Gray: "Guess we're walking then."
Me: "Yeah, walking sounds good."
