The Countess lives twice in the apocalypse

Chapter 6: Five

"The Countess is asking me to go back home?" Jeriel blinked, staring at the captain of the knights and the third prince of the kingdom, Hanzo, in confusion.

"That seems to be the case." Hanzo stated, his orange eyes glancing at her bewildered expression, "It sounds like something important is happening in the Rafelon County, I suggest going home for today and come back next week."

"How about my duties, sir?"

"I can have Klyde take over your patrols for the rest of the week." Hanzo waved her off, going back to the paperwork in front of him, "This is the first time that the Countess asked for you to go back home so I'm not stopping you."

"Okay.." Jeriel didn't ask further questions and turned on her heels, "I'll come back as soon as possible, sir."

She didn't wait for him to say anything and walked out of his office. Not like he'll say anything anyways. On the other hand, it was truly the first time that the Countess had asked for her to come home. On a short notice at that. She can't help, but feel uneasy for some reason and was quick to go to her quarters, changing out of her uniform.

She'll have to take her horse with her for easier and quicker commute to the county.

"My lady, I sent the tailor you specifically asked for to the county." Jeremiah informed Jannah as soon as she stepped inside the carriage, "Lady Viola will be there tomorrow morning."

"Good job, Jeremiah." She praises him with a nod of her head, "How about lady Davis?"

"The lady didn't go to her store today, my lady. I was informed that she went to Baron Cohen's territory in the south since the Baron's wife fell sick." The knight said with a tilt of his head, "The store's clerk sounded uncertain so I'm not quite sure how much of this information is true."

"South?" Jannah raised an eyebrow, "Baron Cohen's territory can be found near the border, right? Lady Davis is the sister-in-law of Baron Cohen so the clerk's story adds up."

"From what I remembered, my lady, Baron Cohen's and Baron Davis's territories only has as small as the capital's quester in the border. Baron Cohen's are on the left side of the south gate while Baron Davis's on the right side." Lucienta commented, "I know of this because I came from Nivea, my lady."

"Nivea's under Baron Davis, right?"

"Yes!"

Does that mean that the infection started spreading from Nimpa? If my hunch is true, then Lady Davis must have bought the infection to the capital exactly a week from now. She probably got infected when she visited the Baron and left immediately when she witnessed how bad it was. Jannah thought, the reason why she told Leonardo to look for Lady Davis was because in her previous life, the said lady was the one who sent a letter to the crown princess asking for assistance.

The news of something bad spreading from south had reached the people of the capital a little too late. The night when the letters arrived, was also the same night that Lady Davis arrived in the capital, biting the people around her in a blink of an eye.

Well, I'm not even sure if it's Lady Davis who really started biting people, but I'm sure that she's one of the people who brought the infection here. Jannah added on to her thoughts, recalling the sight of chaos in front of her when her little sister dragged her out of the capital through the west gate.

The Starlian kingdom has two borders, the first border is around the capital and the second is around the entire kingdom. Each border has eight gates that can be used as an entrance and exit. When the outbreak started, the sisters escaped to go to the south, where their family mansion reside. However, this time, Jannah is planning to go to the north.

It's too hot in the south, my people needed to shed their clothing to avoid sweating, but if we went to the north, there's a chance that we can wear thick clothing to not have those teeth sink into our flesh. As much as Jannah wanted to build an armor to protect themselves from those flesh eating teeth, she knows that it's impossible. She tried to wear those thick clothing in her previous life and saved herself a couple of times, but since the weather was not cooperating, she had to abandon it.

It's either she'll die from being bitten, attacked, or heat stroke. Of course, she chose to live and not die by natural occurrence.

"My lady, are we emptying out the vegetable and fruit stands on the commoner's market as well?" Lucienta asked, snapping Jannah out of her musings.

"Yes, have someone go and buy all those consumables. Have that someone go to Philipia as soon as they buy it and make sure to pay the people with cash." Jannah said, she knows for sure that the commoners might protest if she'll buy those vegetables and fruits all of a sudden, but people who needs money, will be quiet in the presence of money.

"What if the vegetables and fruits are bad, my lady?" Jeremiah inquired, having himself seated beside Lucienta since the Countess told him to, "What should we do with the bad ones?"

"I'll have Leonardo and Charles take care of those, don't worry." Jannah waved his worry off.

They need fertilizers anyways. She added on to her thoughts, looking out of the carriage's window. I will have to send my people to Philipia the day after tomorrow and have their loved ones sent there as well. However, there's a limit on how much people I can take under my wings..

She ended her day like that, after buying everything she could on the shopping district and meeting with the Duke who stayed loyal to her until his death, she decided to continue whatever she needs to do in her office.

That is, if Marques Merlot will allow her.
