Chapter 2: Chapter 2: No Pokémon League in This World?!
Holding the familiar Pokémon Egg in his hands, Gabriel couldn't help but marvel at the texture of its surface. There was no doubt about it—this was a Dratini Egg!
And Dratini's final evolution is Dragonite. That's right, Dragonite!
Seriously? After all the trouble it took to arrive in the Pokémon world, my first Pokémon still ends up being a Dragonite? Is there some cosmic connection between me and Dragonite?
I really don't want this kind of bond!
"Surprised?"
Antonio grinned as he looked at Gabriel, while Jarvie, standing nearby, also seemed satisfied. To them, Gabriel's reaction suggested he was utterly shocked and delighted by the gift. Their choice must have been spot on.
What could Gabriel even say? With no better option, he swallowed his disappointment, putting on a face of excitement despite the tears he was crying inside.
"This is a rare monster egg I specially got for you. They say it's something extraordinary, though we don't know exactly what it is. You'll have to hatch it to find out," Antonio explained gently, patting Gabriel's head.
Wait—hold up. Did he just say monster egg?
"Monster egg?" Gabriel asked, his voice trembling.
"Yeah, monster egg. What about it?"
"Don't you mean Pokémon?"
"Pokémon? What's that supposed to be?"
Gabriel was stunned. So, in this world, people still refer to Pokémon as monsters?
As a loyal Pokémon fan, Gabriel knew his history. In the early days of Pokémon, people did refer to them as monsters. But after the establishment of the Pokémon League, the term was unified across regions to Pokémon.
"Dad, is there a Pokémon League in this world?"
"Pokémon League? What's that?"
"It's a global organization that connects regions and maintains peace across the world."
"Oh, you mean like the United Nations? Don't you know about that?"
Gabriel clutched his head in frustration. The United Nations? Don't tell me I've been transported to a parallel world where Ash doesn't exist, and this isn't the Pokémon world I know?
The Pokémon League's role was to maintain stability, establish the strongest trainer in each region, and crown them as the Champion Trainer.
In the games, players aim to become Champions. But in reality, Champion Trainers weren't just a symbol of honor—they had the responsibility of maintaining order on behalf of the Pokémon League. With their power, they could deter troublemakers anywhere they went.
Thanks to the Pokémon League, the regions enjoyed relative peace and stability. But if there's no Pokémon League here, perhaps the United Nations keeps things under control?
Gabriel had so many questions for Antonio, but he was just a kid in his father's eyes. Acting too knowledgeable might raise suspicion, even from his family.
Forget it. I'll just look it up later.
"What's with the serious face? You're just a kid—don't be so glum. Smile a little!"
Jarvie, ever playful and carefree, suddenly hugged Gabriel while he was deep in thought. She pinched his cheeks like they were made of dough, completely ignoring his protests.
Although Gabriel tried to resist, he was no match for her strength. In the end, his face was red and slightly sore from her antics.
It's over. My handsome face is ruined!
Despite all the chaos, Gabriel managed to enjoy a pleasant birthday celebration. However, the festivities were cut short when Antonio and Jarvie announced they had to leave.
"Do you really have to go? Can't you stay one more day?"
Gabriel tried to sound indifferent, but deep down, he felt reluctant to see them leave. Though his family provided him with a comfortable life, their busy schedules meant they barely spent any time together.
"Sorry, there's too much work at the company. We have to leave today," Antonio replied.
"It's fine. You go ahead."
Despite his calm words, Gabriel's disappointment was written all over his face.
Moved by his expression, Jarvie suddenly hugged him again, tears in her eyes.
"My poor baby! Antonio, you go ahead—I'll stay home and keep him company!"
No, please, Dad! Take Mom with you!
Gabriel's eyes widened in horror, pleading silently with Antonio to spare him.
Understanding his wife's personality all too well, Antonio's face darkened slightly. Without a word, he grabbed Jarvie by the arm and dragged her toward the helicopter waiting in the yard.
"Gabriel, don't forget Mommy loves you!"
Jarvie's voice echoed through the helicopter's glass as it took off, sending shivers down Gabriel's spine.
Please, Mom, be more like Dad and prioritize work. I can take care of myself!
With his mischievous mother finally gone, Gabriel heaved a sigh of relief. But as he watched the maids cleaning up inside the house, a thought suddenly struck him.
If I have a Pokémon, then the maid, Elle, must have one too, right?
"Elle, what's your Pokémon?"
The maid, Elle, paused her cleaning and looked at him, puzzled.
"Pokémon? What's that, young master?"
Oh, right. This world calls them monsters.
"You know, a monster—like this one."
Gabriel held up the Pokémon Egg in his hands.
"As my bodyguard, you must have a monster of your own, right?"
Understanding dawned on Elle's face, and she nodded.
"The master did provide me with a monster for protecting you."
"Show me!"
Excited, Gabriel urged her to release it. But Elle hesitated.
"Young master, monsters are powerful and unpredictable. If I release mine, it might hurt you."
"It's fine! If anything happens, it's on me. Just let me see it!"
Sighing at his persistence, Elle finally reached under her skirt and pulled out an object.
Wait—is that a red…Poké Ball?!
"Why was it under your skirt?"
Elle lifted her skirt slightly, revealing the Poké Ball strapped to her thigh.
"For convenience, of course."
