Transmigrated as the Fake Young Master, I’ll Beat up the Scumbags and Bitches

Chapter 203: I know

HuMing never expected to encounter her again. After all, her appearance before him meant she already knew everything.

Likewise, Zhou WenLi hadn’t anticipated that Han HuMing would still be alive.

No, the person standing before her now wasn’t Han HuMing—he was just HuMing.

Having lived with HuMing for so many years, Zhou WenLi could tell at a glance whether or not he was Han HuMing.

But, as her daughter had pointed out, why hadn’t HuMing come back if he were alive?

The more she thought about it, the less she wanted to believe this young man was Han HuMing.

Because if he were, it would mean HuMing didn’t want to return to this family.

And all of it—every bit of it—was her failure as a mother.

“Ha... HuMing.”

Zhou WenLi tentatively called his name, deliberately avoiding the surname he once used.

This startled HuMing. He had expected their reunion to involve Zhou WenLi grabbing him and frantically insisting he was Han HuMing.

But, contrary to his expectations, Zhou WenLi appeared far more composed.

What HuMing didn’t know was that if Han YunXi hadn’t prepared Zhou WenLi beforehand, she might have reacted exactly as he imagined.

HuMing gave her a slight nod before attempting to walk past her.

However, seeing him leave, Zhou WenLi called out in urgency.

“Can we talk?”

“Ma’am, I don’t know you...”

"I am Han YunXi's mother, and I would like to talk to you." Zhou WenLi knew that Han ShuYi and HuMing were on bad terms, so she didn't mention that she was Han ShuYi's mother.

Perhaps this way, HuMing would feel more at ease.

Since that day, she had been consumed by guilt.

Back then, she had indeed considered letting HuMing exchange himself for Han ShuYi. But that thought, fleeting as it was, had been quickly dismissed.

Yet, in the end, HuMing still went—voluntarily.

Reading the diary HuMing had left behind, Zhou WenLi finally understood his perspective.

Perhaps leaving the Han family had been the best choice for him.

But she also knew her actions had made the situation irreparable.

If she hadn’t insisted on breaking off the engagement, Lee Tian wouldn’t have lost his last hope, leading him to kidnap Han ShuYi.

And HuMing wouldn’t have sacrificed himself to save Han ShuYi.

For HuMing, it had been both an escape and a form of atonement.

In Zhou WenLi’s eyes, HuMing owed them nothing. On the contrary, it was they who sought to maintain some connection with him.

Was that fair to HuMing?

Zhou WenLi didn’t know. But she wanted to try.

HuMing stood still, observing the woman before him. She looked more haggard than he remembered.

In his memory, Zhou WenLi always wore a gentle smile and treated others warmly. However, when it came to matters involving her son, she often lost her composure.

Now, standing before him, every movement she made seemed cautious and hesitant.

Was it out of guilt?

HuMing understood the complexities of human nature. He had seen people as conflicted as Zhou WenLi before.

But how did she feel about him?

HuMing was curious.

“Alright, let’s talk over there.”

The two of them entered a nearby café. The place was lively, though few pairs had as large an age gap as theirs.

Zhou WenLi’s gaze remained fixed on HuMing. No matter how she looked at him, he was Han HuMing.

The child she once knew had not left but returned to this place.

If he wanted to leave, why had he come back? Was it to confront ShuYi, or was there another reason?

“Han YunXi mother, if you have something to say, please be direct. I don’t think there’s any need for pleasantries between us.”

HuMing was straightforward. If Zhou WenLi had come to ask him why he was targeting Han ShuYi, then their conversation could end right there.

“HuMing, you look very much like my child,” Zhou WenLi began.

HuMing’s expression didn’t change as he stared at her.

Zhou WenLi continued, seemingly determined to recount the memories etched in her mind.

She spoke of the kind of person Han HuMing had been—mischievous yet inherently kind. How his grades had been poor, but he was daring and bold, even causing a schoolwide commotion over a girl he liked.

From her words, HuMing heard only the fond memories Zhou WenLi had of Han HuMing. But what about her actions toward him?

After Han ShuYi’s return, her affections had clearly shifted.

Of course, she could argue it was natural—Han ShuYi was her biological son.

But what was the point of saying such things to him now?

He raised a hand, signaling her to stop, and spoke calmly.

“Madam, I’m not interested in Han HuMing’s past. I know I look just like him, but we are fundamentally different people. I am not Han HuMing, and Han HuMing is not me.”

“HuMing, I raised you. I can tell who you are at a glance. You may fool YunXi and the others, but I’ve known you since you were little. How could I not recognize you?”

“Your husband already confirmed through a genetic test that I am not Han HuMing.”

As he finished speaking, Zhou WenLi suddenly reached out to grab his hand. Startled, HuMing pulled away almost instantly.

Zhou WenLi pressed her lips together, as if suppressing her emotions, before continuing.

“HuMing, what do you want now that you’ve returned?”

“I’ll take what I want myself.”

“Is it something ShuYi has? If it originally belonged to you, I’ll make sure he gives it back to you.”

Her unexpected offer caught HuMing off guard. He hadn’t expected the usually doting Zhou WenLi to say something like that.

His brows furrowed, and his expression lost its earlier calm.

“There’s no need for you to probe. We have nothing to do with each other.”

“HuMing, I admit that after ShuYi’s return, my care for him went overboard. It wasn’t until YunXi and my husband pointed it out that I realized my mistake. I wanted to make amends, but then the incident with Lee Tian happened. I understand this is my punishment. What I’m doing now is just a way to atone.”

“Madam, saying this now is meaningless. The dead are gone, and compensating me is just your way of easing your own conscience.”

“You’re right.” Zhou WenLi’s face paled at his words, yet she forced a smile.

“Don’t worry. I know what I need to do.”
