Chapter 17: Chapter 16: You're One of Us

Spider-Ham circled Peter and said, "But there's nothing that really sets you apart from us, is there?"

Peter quipped, "No, no, no. Maybe I'm not that different from them, but I'm definitely not the same as you."

Spider-Ham: !!!

He suddenly leaped up, landing on Peter's shoulder, pressing his snout against Peter's cheek. "What do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm a pig?"

"Uh, aren't you?" Shadow Spider shrugged from the side.

Spider-Ham:

The smile on his face slowly faded. His hands loosened, and he slid off Peter's shoulder.

Peter quickly caught him.

But Spider-Ham didn't respond. His pig-like antenna ears drooped sadly. "Oh, come on, do you have any idea how much damage a statement like that can do to a cute humanoid spider?"

"I beg you all, stop fooling around!" Peni snapped, unable to hold back. Her sharp gaze locked onto Peter. "Now that I think about it, you really do seem different from us. Your world even has a game about Miles?"

Peter nodded earnestly. "Yeah, not just a Miles game—there's also a PS4 game about Spider-Man, a series of movies, animations, and supposedly comics too."

Shadow Spider: !!!

Peni Parker: !!!

SP//dr: ΩДΩ!

Middle-Aged Peter Parker: !!!

Noir Spider-Man: !!!

Gwen Spider: !!!

Spider-Ham (glancing around, feeling out of place): !!!

"Wait, what's up with your world? It sounds so unique," Gwen said, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Or... is it possible that someone in your world can travel through time and space, visiting other universes? Is that how you know about these things?"

From her tone, it was clear she was very intrigued by the concept of "time travel."

Peter, however, didn't notice. He simply started explaining the things he knew.

He talked about Tobey's original Spider-Man trilogy, Andrew's The Amazing Spider-Man duology, and the more recent Tom's trilogy—Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. He also mentioned the Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales games, as well as the 1994 animated Spider-Man series.

These were the things he was more familiar with. Beyond that, he shared bits and pieces he'd picked up from online discussions, like rumors about Spider-Man and Silk or Spider-Man and Black Cat.

"This is unbelievable!" Middle-Aged Peter Parker was the first to process all this information. "That Tobey Spider you mentioned... his story sounds a lot like mine. But that was over a decade ago. Mary Jane and I had plenty of issues too. We haven't seen each other in ages. I don't even know how she's doing now."

As he spoke, a hint of nostalgia flickered in his eyes.

His gaze drifted involuntarily toward another table.

On that table was a photo frame with a picture of Mary Jane—this world's Mary Jane, the wife of the Ultimate Spider-Man. But she looked almost identical to his Mary Jane!

It was just like how he and this world's Spider-Man only differed in hair color.

Parallel universes were, indeed, extraordinary.

Shadow Spider suddenly realized: "No wonder the first time we met, you called me Shadow Spider-Man and mentioned that some Spider-Men grow barbs on their hands."

Peter chuckled, recalling his over-the-top reaction when he first met Shadow Spider the night before. In hindsight, it was indeed a bit funny.

Noir Spider leaned in eagerly. "Then... can you help me train my powers?"

Peter sighed. "Just because I've played the game doesn't mean I actually know how to use your abilities. What I know about them is just what I've already told you. You could try developing them in that direction."

Noir Spider nodded, a bit disappointed. "Alright, I get it. But still, thanks. Having a direction is better than wandering aimlessly."

He then turned to Middle-Aged Peter.

After a moment of hesitation, Middle-Aged Peter said, "I'd love to help you, Miles, but we're running out of time. Right now, the most important thing is getting home, or we're all doomed."

Miles nodded, his disappointment clear, but he understood the urgency.

Peni raised her hand, holding a small device. "Everyone, I've got good news."

"What's the good news?"

Peni grinned. "This little gadget is actually called the Reset Key. It can reformat the particle collider and restore everything to its original state."

"And then what?" Spider-Ham asked, confused.

Peni rolled her eyes. "And then we can go home!"

"So this is our ticket home!" Peter exclaimed, realizing that their way back had been with them all along.

Shadow Spider spoke up. "This is great news. Now I officially acknowledge your title as Genius Girl. So, the next step is for the Genius Girl to fix the Reset Key and then hand it over to me."

"Wait, why give it to you?" Peter interjected.

Shadow Spider gave him a sideways glance. "Because I promised Aunt May that I'd help this world's Peter destroy Kingpin's collider."

Peter shook his head repeatedly. "No, that wasn't just your promise. Let me handle this."

Spider-Ham, ready to speak up, stopped as Peter turned to him and then to Peni. "Not you either, and Peni, same goes for you!"

"Of everyone here, only Miles and I haven't shown symptoms of dimensional rejection. That means the rest of you should stay inside the collider. As for shutting it down and destroying it, leave that to me!"

Miles protested, "Why just you? What about me?"

Peter looked at him and shook his head slightly. "Miles, I know your situation now. While I see great potential in you, you haven't fully tapped into it yet. Jumping into this fight would be too dangerous."

Miles argued, "But didn't you say you just got your powers recently too? I've had mine for days. Doesn't that make me stronger than you?"

Peter shrugged. "But I've had the benefit of rigorous training from these two," he said, nodding toward Middle-Aged Peter and Shadow Spider. "Now I've got at least a basic level of combat ability."

Spider-Ham nodded in agreement. "I can vouch for that. Peter is now essentially a qualified fighter."

Shadow Spider, however, shook his head slightly. "Calling him qualified is a bit premature."

"Huh?" Peter looked at him in surprise, not expecting Shadow Spider to undercut him.

Shadow Spider explained, "Without real combat experience, how can you call yourself a qualified fighter?"

Miles, overhearing this, couldn't help but feel a bit smug.

Ha! You looked down on me, but turns out you're just as green as I am.
