Chapter 92: Chapter 88. The Early Awakening of a Celestial
[A new A-level mission has been assigned. Summoner, please review.]
"Hm?"
Noah blinked in surprise. The system's notification echoed in his mind just as he deduced the identities of the two individuals.
"An A-level mission?" he muttered, slightly stunned. He hadn't expected that merely spotting two people—without interacting with them—would immediately trigger a mission. It was unexpected but a pleasant surprise.
Recalling how he had nearly overturned Hell's Kitchen trying to complete a B-level mission with no success, now he had activated an A-level mission just by going on an outing. Such luck was rare.
"Let's see what the mission is about."
Noah glanced at Gwen and Lissandra. Gwen was still deciding on a drink, visibly struggling to choose, while Lissandra waited patiently beside her. Noah turned and opened the mission panel, visible only to him.
[A-level Mission: The Awakening of a Celestial]
A new Celestial is set to be born on Earth. During its birth, this powerful being will consume all living creatures on the planet as nourishment. Due to an unknown reason, the awakening of this Celestial is happening ahead of schedule.
[Mission Objective: Prevent the awakening of the Celestial.]
"Celestials… and an unknown reason?"
Noah's thoughts raced. He knew about the Eternals' storyline. Though he hadn't seen the movie, he'd watched several clips and was familiar with the general plot.
A Celestial named Arishem was responsible for planting Celestial seeds on planets inhabited by intelligent life. When the population reached a critical level, the seed would hatch, and the newborn Celestial would absorb the planet's energy, leaving it barren and lifeless.
Earth was one such planet, and thousands of years ago, Arishem sent a group of Eternals to Earth. Their mission was to eliminate the Deviants, but only their leader, Ajak, knew the true purpose of their assignment.
Ten Eternals were sent to Earth, and now that the mission was active, Noah tried to recall the key details about them.
Ajak: The leader of the Eternals, capable of wielding powerful cosmic energy. She was the only one who could communicate with the Celestials and had advanced healing abilities.
Ikaris: The strongest Eternal, with superhuman physical strength and the ability to fire cosmic beams from his eyes.
Sersi: One of the individuals Noah had just encountered. She could transmute molecules of any material into other forms.
Thena: A blonde warrior with formidable combat skills, capable of creating weapons from cosmic energy.
Sprite: An Eternal who appeared as a 10-year-old girl. Due to her powers, her appearance never changed. She could create illusions and clones.
Makkari: The fastest Eternal, harnessing cosmic energy for incredible speed. She was deaf.
Gilgamesh: The strongest Eternal physically, capable of concentrating cosmic energy into his hands for powerful attacks.
Kingo: A ranged combat specialist who fired energy projectiles by channeling cosmic energy through his hands.
Phastos: A peace-loving Eternal with unparalleled intellect, skilled in invention and engineering. He was also openly gay.
Druig: Lacked combat prowess but could control people's minds using cosmic energy.
These ten Eternals were dispatched to Earth by the Celestials, each possessing unique but incredibly potent abilities. Noah tried to recall everything he could about them.
Officially, the Eternals' mission was to eliminate the Deviants on Earth. In reality, their task was to ensure the success of the Emergence—the birth of a new Celestial. After each Emergence, the Celestials wiped the Eternals' memories and sent them to another planet for a new mission.
However, one Eternal retained their memories: Ajak, the group's leader. She carried the burden of centuries of knowledge, aware of their true purpose on Earth. While her comrades remained oblivious, she couldn't defy her creator, Arishem.
Noah remembered that Ajak eventually died—not by chance but at the hands of one of her own. Having lived on Earth for centuries, she grew fond of humanity and didn't want to see the planet destroyed. The repeated erasure of her comrades' memories also fueled her growing resentment, sparking a desire to rebel against the Celestials.
In the movie, there was a scene where Ajak confided in Ikaris, revealing everything. She expressed her wish to prevent the Emergence, but Ikaris, loyal to his purpose, killed her.
"At this point in the story, she's still alive. If I want to change anything, I need to find her," Noah thought.
He remembered that the Emergence was supposed to occur several years after the events of Avengers: Endgame, approximately ten years from now. However, based on the mission description, the awakening had been accelerated for unknown reasons, leaving him uncertain how soon it would happen.
His eyes fell on one of the mission details, and he realized how close the event was.
[Mission Deadline: 400 days and 5 hours.]
"A deadline? Does this mean the mission will fail if I don't complete it by then? In other words, that's the Celestial's birth date."
Seeing the timeline, Noah realized the awakening would occur in about a year.
"Damn it. What caused this plot to unfold so early?" He rubbed his forehead. He'd known about the Celestials but hadn't given them much thought, assuming they weren't his problem yet. He hadn't reached the level of power needed to deal with such threats.
But now, he had no choice. Events were already in motion, and he was frustrated, eager to uncover what had triggered the early Emergence.
"Wait a second…" Noah's eyes widened as a thought struck him. "If there's something anomalous in this world that shouldn't exist, it's probably me. My soul came from another dimension, and I have the system."
"Could it be my fault?"
Celestial seeds began absorbing a planet's life energy when its population reached a certain level. In the movie, this happened over several decades. But Noah recalled his Resolve Rune, brimming with powerful life energy. Perhaps the presence of such a potent source caused the seed to mistakenly believe the planet had already reached the required energy level, accelerating the Emergence.
"So, it's my fault," he sighed, slapping his forehead. Now he had to clean up the mess he'd inadvertently caused.
"Noah, here you go."
A cool drink appeared before him. He looked up to see Gwen's sweet smile, which instantly lifted his spirits.
"Oh, thanks."
He had over a year to prepare, so there was no need to panic. Perhaps during this time, he might get lucky and summon Aurelion Sol.
"Alright, let's go enjoy some more attractions," he said with a smile, setting aside his worries for the moment.
