Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Mitokado Homura Comes to Visit
Knowing Kushina's intention to seek revenge on Mist and Cloud, why would you still attend such a meeting?
Surely, you've lost your mind.
If Kushina's vendetta remains mild, it might be manageable. But if it spirals out of control and war erupts, the blame will fall squarely on whoever initiated the alliance negotiations.
The Raikage's willingness to ally with Konoha is largely because of him.
Under these circumstances, Shinki absolutely doesn't want to attend the meeting.
"You all can discuss whatever you like. That's your business. Just don't involve me!"
If I don't participate, the blame won't land on my head.
The war between Konoha and Sand Village ended less than a year ago. If this triggers a new conflict, even a child could predict how villagers who hate and have suffered from war will react—they'll drown you in spit.
Tsunade, tying her long ponytail after throwing her coat onto the sofa, shook her head and, satisfied there were no issues, sat beside Shinki.
"I bet even the Raikage himself doesn't understand why you're avoiding the meeting. After all, you played a key role in the village's alliance with the Cloud Village."
"Don't flatter me. It has nothing to do with me."
How could he admit to such a thing?
Some people love receiving accolades, but Shinki isn't one of them.
"Forget it, I'm too lazy to argue. By the way, what about Kushina? Her teacher came to me today about her graduation."
After being summoned by teachers so many times, Tsunade had become numb to such matters.
Fortunately, relief was in sight.
The teacher suggested Kushina graduate early from the ninja academy. Given her strength and long absence from classes, it seemed logical to expedite the process.
"Kushina's graduation?"
Shinki paused. "Her teacher isn't planning to make her take the genin test, is he?"
"Of course not," Tsunade replied, leaning against Shinki's arm. "It's just for formality—a certificate to apply for her ninja registration. With Kushina's abilities, who'd dare test her? The jonin exam might be more appropriate."
For new ninjas who don't graduate traditionally or apply for early graduation, personal assessments are mandatory. These assessments include both theoretical and practical tests.
Kushina, however, wouldn't need to lift a finger. Unleashing just a sliver of Nine-Tails chakra would terrify any examiner.
Proposing a genin assessment for Kushina was nothing short of a farce.
"Fair enough," Shinki chuckled. "If Kushina took the jonin exam, she'd ace the combat, but the other segments would leave her pulling her hair out."
Jonin exams were no cakewalk—even for the strongest. Rigorous theoretical segments often gave Shinki himself a headache.
"Why don't you encourage her to try?" Tsunade teased, smirking.
She recalled Jiraiya's chaotic attempts at the jonin exam and couldn't help laughing. While Tsunade and Orochimaru passed on their first attempts, Jiraiya nearly drove the examiners insane. It took the Hokage's intervention to lower the difficulty before Jiraiya finally succeeded.
Imagining Kushina fumbling through a jonin exam was downright hilarious.
"Encourage her? She'll probably kill you for suggesting it!" Shinki retorted, pushing Tsunade aside in mock annoyance.
Although the thought of Kushina's antics was tempting, Shinki had no desire to provoke her wrath.
"Fine, keep shielding her," Tsunade grumbled.
Shinki feigned ignorance and ignored her gripes.
Annoyed, Tsunade slapped his arm. "I'm heading out tonight. Don't wait up—you'll be sleeping alone!"
"Don't lose all your money in one night," Shinki quipped knowingly.
Tsunade glared. She hadn't even stepped outside, and Shinki was already jinxing her luck.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Come in!" Shinki called from the kitchen.
When the door opened, Shinki was genuinely surprised—it was Mitokado Homura.
Turning off the stove, Shinki stepped out of the kitchen, still wearing his apron. "What a rare visitor."
"Ahem!" Homura coughed awkwardly, clearly uncomfortable under Shinki's gaze.
Recognizing the hint, Shinki nodded with a smirk, inviting Homura to sit. He placed a bottle of water on the table.
"To what do I owe this visit, Senior Homura? Surely, you didn't come just to make trouble."
"I'm a bit confused and wanted to discuss something with you."
Homura hesitated but ultimately explained. Normally, their relationship was distant—they avoided contact unless absolutely necessary.
This unexpected visit only heightened Shinki's curiosity.
"Go on, what's troubling you?"
Relieved that Shinki didn't outright dismiss him, Homura sighed. Their history was messy, filled with covert battles of wits.
"Well, the Hokage's office has been holding daily meetings about the alliance with the Cloud Village…"
"The negotiations aren't going well?" Shinki raised an eyebrow.
