Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Lust is a Knife Above Your Head
There are gifts, and then there are burdens disguised as gifts.
Just as others envy Kushina for her ability to suppress tailed beasts with the unique power of the Uzumaki bloodline, they fail to understand the cost of such strength. To Kushina, controlling a rampaging tailed beast is like taming a kitten—but this power, this gift, is something no one else can replicate.
It's the Uzumaki clan's legacy, an inimitable blessing that leaves others in awe.
Tsunade, imagining the scene of Kushina being emotionally crushed by something trivial, leaned back and laughed heartily. Her boisterous laugh filled the room, her hands on her hips as she reveled in the thought.
Shinki glanced at her, veins popping on his forehead.
"Tsunade, can you at least maintain some decorum? Even if there's no one else around, this… this is a bit much."
Tsunade, unfazed, continued laughing until Shinki's words finally caught her attention.
"Kushina might be momentarily discouraged, but she'll get over it," Shinki said calmly. "Besides, when it comes to raw power, Kushina can hold her own against Kumogakure's Eight-Tails jinchūriki any day."
Tsunade's laughter stopped abruptly, her smug expression fading.
"Fine, fine," she muttered, grabbing her shoes lazily. "By the way, we're having dinner at the old joint later. That idiot Jiraiya is back in town."
"Oh?" Shinki asked, raising an eyebrow. "What about Nawaki? Did he wander off to have some fun?"
"Nawaki? Fun?!" Tsunade scoffed, her face darkening. "He's lying in the hospital, and he won't be out for weeks. The idiot got himself seriously injured."
The Incident
Shinki's expression shifted. "What happened?"
Tsunade gritted her teeth. "The mission was over, but on the way back, he spotted a rogue ninja. Instead of informing Jiraiya, he went after him alone. By the time Jiraiya found him, he was already lying on the ground, defeated."
"A rogue ninja, you say? Who was it?"
"Mu Zhenjiro," Tsunade spat.
"Mu Zhenjiro?" Shinki frowned. "Are you sure it was him?"
"Positive," Tsunade growled.
Shinki shook his head in exasperation. "Nawaki got outplayed by a mid-level rogue ninja? He's been slacking."
"Slacking?" Tsunade's eyes flared with anger. "This idiot has been spending all his time fooling around with Jiraiya instead of focusing on his training! When he's better, I'm going to wring his neck!"
Shinki chuckled. "Well, it's a learning opportunity. Better to get outsmarted by traps now than to suffer worse on the battlefield. At least he's alive."
The mention of Mu Zhenjiro brought up an old memory. A former Konoha ninja, Mu Zhenjiro had turned rogue after killing several comrades in a fit of rage. Known for his cunning traps, he wasn't particularly strong in direct combat but could outmaneuver less experienced opponents like Nawaki.
Dinner with Jiraiya
Later that evening, Shinki and Tsunade arrived at the restaurant. Jiraiya, seated at the table with a bottle of sake, froze the moment he saw them. His cheerful demeanor vanished, replaced by a nervous smile as he shrank against the wall.
Tsunade wasted no time. Raising her fist, she glared at Jiraiya. "Do you realize how much trouble you've caused?"
Jiraiya laughed nervously. "Tsunade, come on… I—"
"Don't you 'Tsunade' me!" she snapped, though she ultimately sat down without throwing a punch. For now.
As they settled in, Shinki leaned back and eyed Jiraiya. "So, Jiraiya, what were you doing when Nawaki was fighting for his life?"
Jiraiya winced. Tsunade rolled her eyes, already knowing the answer.
"Look," Jiraiya stammered, "I was… distracted. But I swear, I won't let it happen again!"
Shinki's expression hardened. "Jiraiya, lust is a knife above your head. A moment of indulgence almost cost Nawaki his life. What if it had? Could you live with yourself? Could you face Tsunade? You need to grow up."
Jiraiya lowered his head, visibly ashamed. "I know. I've learned my lesson. I swear, no more distractions until the mission is done."
"Good." Shinki's voice softened slightly. "Remember this feeling, Jiraiya. Guilt is a heavy burden. Don't add to it."
Tsunade, still fuming but slightly mollified by Jiraiya's remorse, grabbed the nearest bottle of sake and downed half of it. "You're lucky, Jiraiya. If Nawaki had died, I'd have killed you myself."
Jiraiya forced a laugh, though the fear in his eyes was genuine.
