Naruto: Tenseigan Eye

Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Alliance Formed, and Fighting Broke Out Right After?

The Mist Village escalated tensions in the disputed waters by dispatching additional forces. Not to be outdone, the Cloud Village responded with reinforcements, determined not to fall behind.

The mindset was clear: If you dare to send more people, we won't back down!

Could the small Mist Village intimidate the mighty Cloud Village? Certainly not. Both sides mobilized warships, patrolling the contested waters and engaging in daily skirmishes.

The Cloud Village claimed the waters as their own, while the Mist Village adamantly insisted the territory had always been theirs. Insults flew back and forth as the tension simmered.

The Cloud Village, known for its rugged mountain culture, didn't hold back when it came to cursing. Vulgarity was practically an art form. However, the Mist Village was no stranger to conflict either, accustomed to such confrontations.

But everything changed with the arrival of the Kaguya Clan.

While patrolling the waters, the Kaguya clan members were met with a barrage of insults from the Cloud ninjas. Instead of returning the insults, the Kaguya tilted their heads in thought.

Are they insulting us?

Oh, they are? Then... KILL THEM!

Without hesitation, the Kaguya clan members abandoned words and launched a direct attack, boarding the Cloud ninjas' ship and engaging in combat. The sudden assault left the Cloud ninjas stunned.

"Wait, what's happening? Are Mist ninjas always this aggressive?"

They were unaware that the Kaguya Clan wasn't known for bravery but for their sheer madness. They didn't fear death. If provoked, their reaction was straightforward: If you insult me, I'll kill you.

The sudden skirmish escalated quickly. The Cloud Village ninjas called for reinforcements, and the Mist Village—seeing their allies fighting—rushed to support them, even though they didn't fully understand what had triggered the battle.

Soon, the disputed waters were teeming with ships from both villages, and the conflict grew into a large-scale battle.

Initially, there was some restraint from both sides. But as the Kaguya Clan charged into enemy lines with reckless abandon, the battle spiraled out of control. What began as a minor skirmish quickly erupted into chaos.

Many ninjas on both sides had the same thought: How did this escalate so quickly?

Unfortunately, the situation was already beyond their control. With villagers and comrades fighting, they had no choice but to join the fray.

The Third Raikage was stunned when he received the report. "You're telling me our forces were patrolling, and Mist Village ninjas attacked first?"

"Yes, Raikage," the messenger confirmed. "While it's true our people insulted them, it was within the bounds of normal confrontation. We never expected them to attack outright."

The Raikage nodded. For him, trading insults was a typical part of standoffs—provocative, but not an excuse for open warfare.

"Summon the senior leaders immediately. This is a serious provocation, and war may be upon us."

When the Cloud Village leadership convened, tempers flared. The Third Raikage, known for his fiery temperament, realized he was among the more restrained voices in the room. Others were incensed, shouting for immediate retaliation against the Mist Village.

In the end, the council unanimously decided to retaliate. The Mist Village's unprovoked attack was seen as a declaration of war.

To ensure they were prepared for any contingencies, the Third Raikage sent a message to Konoha, warning them of the brewing conflict. The letter requested Konoha's support, emphasizing the potential for the Rock Village (Iwagakure) to exploit the situation and attack the Cloud Village.

If the Rock Village joined the war, the Cloud Village would need Konoha to intervene, either by engaging Iwagakure directly or by keeping them occupied.

When the Third Hokage received the Cloud Village's message, he was baffled. "We just formed an alliance with the Cloud Village to ensure peace, and now they're heading straight into war?"

He sighed deeply. "Doesn't anyone understand Konoha is still recovering from the last war?"

Realizing the gravity of the situation, the Third Hokage summoned Konoha's senior leadership for an emergency meeting.

"Call everyone back immediately. The Mist Village and Cloud Village are already fighting in the disputed waters. This conflict could escalate into a full-scale war," he ordered.

Kushina, who had been operating outside the village, was immediately contacted by Shinki and instructed to return. Staying outside during such volatile times was risky, especially with the Cloud Village potentially targeting her.
