Chapter 3: CHAPTER 3: MOONLIGHT
Alex didn't know why but he suddenly felt this new guy was going to be a huge threat or probably he already is. "Hey, um Adrien. What are you doing here?" Rose gave herself a slap on the forehead internally as he responded a bit skeptical." To..eat?"Adrien stated. "Sorry, that's not what I meant. What I wanted to say was, I didn't expect to see you here." Way to go, Rose! She scolded herself silently. Adrien laughed softly." Well I didn't expect to see you here either. But it's lovely to see you here, Rose." He spoke in a calm tone and Rose blushed deeply. Alex who sat quietly in the corner watching their not so discreet flirting suddenly felt like a third wheel. Staring at Rose whose entire face now burned red he couldn't help but feel an intense dislike for Adrien. His heart kept on thumping and he was really fighting his inner demons from bursting out and creating a scene. "I just stopped by to join my mom for dinner." His thoughts were pulled back by Adrien's voice. "Oh." Rose simply mumbled, the redness had toned down a bit but it was still obvious. "I guess I'll see you some other time. Maybe we could go out or something." He mumbled while nervously rubbing the back of his neck. Rose felt her heart flutter and she immediately responded jerking her head back and forth." Yes, sure!" "Great. I'll leave you two now." He said and turned to leave after giving a simple acknowledging nod at Alex. "Oh my god, Alex. Did you just see that? Adrien just asked me out." She blabbed excitedly. Alex couldn't respond, just stared at her intently. "Hey, why are you quiet all of a sudden?" She teasingly asked. Alex managed a tight smile and spoke. "I think I'm full, we should head home now." He spoke curtly. "What! Why? We've not tried the other dishes, we haven't even had dessert yet." She whined. "Pity we can't stay longer, I don't feel too well." He cut her off. "How?! You were fine just moments ago." She quizzed. "Probably has something to do with the shrimp sauce." He replied as he pulled back his chair slowly getting up. Rose immediately became concerned. "Oh my, does your stomach feel uneasy?" She asked, a look of worry on her face. Alex immediately felt touched by her concern for him and his anger subsided a bit. "No, just feeling a bit dizzy." It wasn't entirely a lie, he did feel dizzy. But it wasn't because of the shrimp sauce, rather his earlier jealousy made his head spin. "Oh." Rose mumbled. "I guess we should head home now, so you could get some rest." She added. She slowly stood up from her seat, walked over to him and gently held his arm to help him walk. As soon as Alex felt her touch his arm he felt a slight flutter in his heart and he let out a soft sigh. They made their way out after Alex paid Henry, their waiter. The young man looked a bit disappointed as he expected them to stay longer and order more but he immediately masked his disappointment with a polite smile and thanked them as they walked past him. Alex and Rose finally arrived in front of their ride and the driver quickly moved to open the door for them. After they were seated comfortably, Alex commanded a simple drive and the car started moving, slowly making its way out of the restaurant's parking lot. "How do you feel? Still dizzy?" Rose asked, still concerned about his health. Alex smiled slightly and responded. "Just a bit." Rose nodded and turned away. He stared at her intently as she looked out the window. He noticed her lips were caught in between her teeth. Alex drew in a sharp breath as he suddenly imagined himself biting her lips as he slowly kissed her. Feeling a bit uncomfortable he averted his gaze and looked straight ahead, but spoke." If you have something to say just say it." Apart from the effect of her biting her lips had on him, he knew this was a habit she exhibited when she had something to say. Rose let out a huff." Don't you feel sad?" She asked. He turned his gaze back at her. "About?" "I mean it's your birthday and I promised we would have fun and celebrate you but we haven't even enjoyed much as a proper meal this evening and you're already unwell." She spoke with a sad face. Alex suddenly felt guilty. He was angry about her crush and yet here she was still concerned about not just his health but his happiness as well. He felt terrible for using his jealousy as an excuse to ruin a night of fun with her. He cleared his throat. "You know, I don't really feel that bad anymore." He stated. " Come on, I know you're saying that just so I don't feel bad." She retorted. "Hey, I'm not lying okay. I do feel better now, so stop worrying about me. The dizziness is gone." He insisted. "Are you sure?" She asked, skeptical. "Believe me." He assured. Rose immediately lightened up. "Then I guess we shouldn't head home just yet. I have a place in mind we could visit, just the two of us. We could spend a few hours there before finally clocking out." She suggested. Alex immediately agreed. And so he ordered the driver to turn the car around and follow the directions Rose gave.
After minutes of driving they arrived at the woods in the outskirts of a nearby town. Alex smiled as Rose took his hand and hurriedly pulled him out leaving the driver confused for a moment, but then he shrugged it off, thinking, kids. Alex was pulled along by Rose as they stumbled through the woods, he noticed she was almost out of breath and spoke. "Hey, relax. It's not like we're being chased by a bear." She finally stopped. "You're right." She agreed. Alex stated at her wide-eyed. He didn't expect her to agree so easily. This time she pulled him, but a bit calmer till they finally arrived towards the edge of a cliff. "Once again, happy birthday bestie. You mean the world to me." Rose smiled as she wished him in a soft tone. She stepped aside and Alex's gaze came in line with the night sky and the glowing full moon in the centre, he gasped in awe. It was beautiful. Rose gave herself a pat on the shoulder. She pulled him down to sit and followed suit after, taking a seat by him. "This is amazing." He spoke still awe-struck. "Yhh." Rose agreed in response. He turned to stare at her and his heart started to beat wildly. She stared intently at the moon. The side of her face against the background of the moon looked more enchanting than the moon itself. Rose turned to meet his gaze and smiled before slowly placing her head on his shoulders. Then in that moment, Alex suddenly felt complete. He felt at peace with the world and forgot about everything, her crush, his unrequited love and his earlier jealousy. All he felt was immense love. And peace, just sitting here with his true love, Rose. Under the moonlight.
