Chapter 107: Chapter 101 Burn it
The Third Raikage and several of his entourage walked through the streets of Konoha with particularly displeased expressions. It wasn't due to any hostility from the villagers towards Kumogakure; rather, it was the staggering development of Konoha that troubled them.
While it wasn't as noticeable in the outer city, upon entering the inner city, the sight of four or five-story buildings made the Third Raikage's heart skip a beat. The streets were lined with green bricks, and the villagers of Konoha appeared well-nourished and lively. Such vitality was evident in almost every resident, highlighting the stark difference between Konoha and Kumogakure.
The Third Raikage's demeanor was sour as he walked. His intimidating presence kept even the most resentful villagers at bay. However, upon reaching the bustling commercial street, his composure slipped entirely. The thriving business district was a glaring testament to Konoha's prosperity, making Kumogakure seem a step behind.
Eventually, the Third Raikage was escorted to the Hokage's office building, which, to his relief, retained its traditional appearance. Senju Tobirama had not allowed Yuya to renovate it, providing a small comfort to the Raikage.
Inside the conference room, the Third Raikage encountered Senju Tobirama and a young man—Yuya. If the Raikage had decided to attack, Tobirama would have had to defend Yuya with all his might. (Yuya: So it's me who's to blame?!)
Fortunately, the Third Raikage had no intention of causing trouble. He sat with a stern expression, his guards standing behind him.
Senju Tobirama spoke calmly, "There's no need to be so tense. Your guards can take a seat too."
"Boom!"
The Third Raikage slapped the table, startling Yuya. The Raikage's sudden aggression was intimidating, but his words were: "Enough with the pleasantries! Tell me the specific terms! If they're unreasonable, I won't sign!"
Senju Tobirama remained expressionless, while Yuya smiled at the Raikage's directness, appreciating his straightforward approach.
The Third Raikage pressed, "Tell me! What are the terms?!"
Senju Tobirama closed his eyes, prompting Yuya to hand over a scroll. Upon receiving it, the Third Raikage was overwhelmed by the text.
He erupted, "Konoha has gone too far! So many conditions for our Hidden Cloud Village?!"
Yuya, slightly stunned, cautiously replied, "The conditions aren't unreasonable. In fact, they're quite generous. Please, take a closer look."
The Third Raikage, though initially suspecting Konoha of exploiting the situation, was only posturing—a common negotiation tactic.
He signaled a guard to examine the scroll. As the guard read through the terms, he became increasingly astonished. True to Yuya's words, the conditions weren't harsh; they were surprisingly generous. Although Yunyin was required to pay two billion taels in compensation, Konoha was willing to accept Yunyin's banknotes, despite their devaluation.
Even the public apologies and declarations of non-hostility were mere formalities. The Third Raikage and the Fourth Raikage had already anticipated these demands.
The guard, initially perplexed, recognized the terms from agreements between Konoha, Kirigakure, Sunagakure, and Iwagakure—all of which had led to prosperous relations.
Yet, he wondered if genuine cooperation between Konoha and Kumogakure was feasible after their fierce conflicts.
The Third Raikage, noting his guard's hesitation, demanded, "Can we take this back to review?"
Expecting refusal, he was surprised when Senju Tobirama calmly agreed, "Of course."
The Third Raikage was taken aback, puzzled by Tobirama's unexpected generosity. The Raikage, his mind spinning from the unanticipated turn of events, chose to leave.
Before departing, he left a box with Senju Tobirama, saying with a mischievous smile, "This is my gift to Konoha. Make sure all the families see it."
As the Raikage exited, Senju Tobirama and Yuya were left pondering the contents of the mysterious box.
Soon after, the leaders of various families were summoned. When they arrived, curious about the meeting's purpose, Senju Tobirama instructed Sarutobi Hiruzen to open the box. The seal remained intact, indicating that neither Tobirama nor Yuya had tampered with it.
Inside the box were letters. Sarutobi Hiruzen picked one up, and his face paled as he read.
Senju Tobirama, unfazed, addressed the gathered clan leaders, "This is a gift from the Third Raikage. The seal remains unbroken, so its contents are unknown to me. Sarutobi, please share what you've read."
Trembling, Sarutobi Hiruzen read aloud, "To the Commander of the Third Legion of Cloud Hidden Village, I am the Captain of the Third Detachment of the Sarutobi Division on the Konoha Front Line, Sarutobi Sake Room. I write to inform you..."
The letter revealed intelligence being traded to prevent an assault on the Sarutobi clan's position.
Yuya closed his eyes, realizing Tobirama had likely known the contents all along. This revelation wasn't to frighten Sarutobi but to teach a lesson to all present.
Senju Tobirama, observing the reactions, calmly asked Yuya, "What do you think we should do with these letters?"
Understanding the underlying message, Yuya responded, "Burn them."
Tobirama, slightly surprised but satisfied, nodded. Yuya's decision aligned with his own thoughts, reaffirming his trust in Yuya's judgment.
