Chapter 402: Chapter 402: Two Villages Open Fire Over a Disagreement

The warships of both villages headed toward the same location, and tensions quickly escalated into conflict.

The ninjas of the Cloud Village, known for their domineering nature, decided to strike first. Without hesitation, they launched an attack to sink the Mist Village warships. Their goal was to delay the Mist ninjas and buy time to investigate the scene themselves.

Turtle Island was a closely guarded secret of the Cloud Village. Few even knew of its existence, and its erratic movements made its location unpredictable—even to the Cloud ninjas. No one had yet connected the disturbance to Turtle Island, but the Cloud ninjas were determined to keep anyone from interfering.

"Damn it! Attack! Kill these highland barbarians!"

The Mist ninjas, blindsided by the assault, were furious. They immediately retaliated, organizing their forces to counterattack.

A full-blown battle erupted.

As the two sides clashed, both villages launched flares and sent messages back home, requesting reinforcements. Soon, additional warships from both sides began converging on the scene.

The conflict spiraled out of control, growing in scale as more forces joined the fray. Both villages were enraged, escalating the violence to unprecedented levels.

Meanwhile, Kushina and the well-fed Jin Ya had already slipped away from the chaos.

"Kushina, the Cloud Village and the Mist Village have started fighting," the Nine-Tails reported, its keen perception picking up the battle raging on the surface.

"What?" Kushina feigned confusion, though her mischievous grin betrayed her satisfaction.

"Why are they fighting? Weren't they being so restrained just a moment ago?"

The Nine-Tails chuckled. "It's probably because the disturbance from us killing the big turtle was too strong. They both rushed to investigate, ran into each other, and then… well, you know how they are."

Kushina blinked in disbelief. "No way. They held back when I was sinking their ships and warships, but one big turtle and a few shockwaves, and they start a full-on brawl? How childish!"

What Kushina didn't realize was that the earlier attacks on their warships had lacked the clear escalation needed to provoke a war. Both villages had retaliated in measured ways, avoiding outright conflict. However, the massive battle fluctuations from the destruction of Turtle Island had set off alarm bells.

Both sides wanted to claim control over the scene of the incident. Neither was willing to let the other investigate freely, and their shared route ensured an inevitable confrontation.

When the two fleets crossed paths, the Cloud ninjas—true to their reputation—struck first.

Although the Mist ninjas were caught off guard, they had been on high alert and quickly countered. The pent-up tension between the two sides exploded into an all-out naval battle.

"Let them fight. This is our chance to slip away unnoticed," Kushina said, taking advantage of the chaos. She had no intention of exposing her involvement in the destruction of Turtle Island.

Back at the battlefield, both villages continued to clash fiercely.

The reinforcements from the Cloud Village had the numerical advantage and reached the site of the disturbance first. The Mist forces, forced to take a detour, arrived shortly afterward.

What greeted them both was a scene of utter devastation.

The sea was dyed red with blood. Trees, vegetation, and fragments of scale and flesh floated on the surface. Sharks circled, drawn by the carnage, while the remnants of a massive creature bobbed in the waves.

The Cloud ninjas quickly collected what evidence they could and killed the sharks to secure the area.

On a nearby island, a temporary Cloud command post buzzed with activity. Dodai, the Third Raikage's trusted assistant, had been sent to oversee operations in the region.

When news of the strange battle fluctuations reached him, Dodai was puzzled. "What could have caused such a massive disturbance on the sea? Who's fighting out there?"

He quickly ordered retaliation against the Mist ninjas and awaited further updates.

That evening, the investigative team returned with their findings.

"Lord Dodai, the sea was almost entirely dyed red. It seems a large creature was killed. We brought back samples of the remains."

Dodai nodded and opened the scroll containing the collected evidence.

As he examined the scales and flesh, his expression darkened. This looks familiar. Too familiar.

By the third glance, his face was pale, and his hands trembled.

"Send this to Lord Raikage immediately!" Dodai ordered, his voice quivering.

Turtle Island was attacked.

Across the sea, the Mist ninjas conducted their own investigation.

The remains collected from the site were sent to the Mizukage, Yagura, for analysis. As he examined the scale fragments, he frowned in confusion.

"These look similar to the scales on the Three-Tails' abdomen. Is this… a giant turtle?"

Yagura, who had sealed the Three-Tails within himself and was familiar with marine creatures, deduced that the remains likely belonged to a massive turtle. But what could have killed such a creature?

Both villages sent their findings back for further research.

In the Mist Village, Yagura issued a firm response. "Send a formal letter to the Cloud Village. Demand to know if they intend to declare war on the Mist. If not, they need to exercise restraint immediately."

The Mist warship had been the first to suffer an unprovoked attack, and Yagura was determined to hold the Cloud Village accountable.

The destruction of Turtle Island, initially thought to be an isolated incident, now threatened to ignite a full-scale war between the Cloud and Mist Villages.

Unbeknownst to either side, the true cause of the chaos—Kushina—was long gone, leaving behind a trail of destruction and an intensifying conflict.
