Chapter 419: Chapter 419: The Fire Country Daimyo Stabs the Third Hokage

"Hehehe, Shinki, this is really something," Kushina said, her tone a mix of pride and embarrassment.

Shinki gave her a knowing look and sighed as he noticed her growing smugness.

"Yes, you're very powerful. You single-handedly plunged the Great Ninja Villages into war. Kushina, you've essentially rewritten history. You could be called the first person in history to achieve this... though it's a pity this 'glorious record' will never be public. Otherwise, you'd have a lot of people hating you."

"What 'glorious record'? I don't want it!" Kushina replied awkwardly, her grin betraying her mixed feelings.

Shinki smirked. Are you seriously laughing about this? Do you actually think this is a glorious achievement?

"Alright, go get some rest. Don't wander around for a while. The Cloud Village might start digging for information about you."

"Ah?" Kushina looked puzzled. "Why would they investigate me? Have they already figured out it was me?"

Shinki chuckled, patting her on the head. Kushina winced, rubbing her forehead in mock protest.

"They don't know for sure, but they have their suspicions. Turtle Island was enormous. Destroying something like that, even with a creature as large as the Nine Tails, isn't something just anyone can do. Unfortunately, you're one of the very few who could pull it off. The Cloud Village will likely investigate anyone with the capability, and you're on that list."

He added, "Remember, you've always been in the village and haven't gone anywhere. Got it?"

"Yeah, yeah, I got it! I've always stayed in the village," Kushina repeated, nodding quickly.

The matter had to remain discreet. If Kushina were exposed, Konoha's position would become incredibly awkward. However, as long as no direct evidence tied her to the incident, the Cloud Village would have to grit their teeth and let it go.

Kushina had stumbled upon Turtle Island purely by chance. Who could've predicted such an encounter? In truth, if the Cloud Village hadn't stationed ninjas on Turtle Island, Kushina probably wouldn't have attacked it at all. She wasn't the type to destroy things recklessly.

But the moment she saw Cloud Village ninjas there, she acted without hesitation. After all, the Cloud Village hadn't shown any mercy when they attacked the Uzumaki Clan in the past.

For the survivors of the Uzumaki Clan, their anger was often directed more at Konoha than the Cloud or Mist Villages. Despite being their supposed ally, Konoha had refused to come to their aid during the crisis and even took advantage of the situation. This betrayal was something none of them could ever forgive.

After Shinki repeatedly stressed the importance of laying low, Kushina reluctantly returned to her room to rest.

At the Hokage's office, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, was wrestling with a new crisis.

The issue wasn't just the war between the Cloud and Mist Villages; it was the overwhelming wave of anti-war sentiment within Konoha itself.

The villagers had only just begun to recover from the last war. There hadn't been enough time to heal from those wounds, and now they were being asked to endure yet another conflict. Unsurprisingly, opposition to Konoha's involvement was widespread. Even many shinobi within the village voiced their dissent.

However, Konoha was allied with the Cloud Village. Breaking the alliance by refusing to help would severely damage Konoha's reputation. Hiruzen was now stuck in a precarious position, caught between his responsibilities as Hokage and the growing unrest among the villagers.

His regret was palpable. In hindsight, forming an alliance with the Cloud Village had been a mistake. Now, Konoha was being dragged into a war that had nothing to do with them.

If the war had been a direct response to an attack on Konoha, the villagers might have understood. But entering a conflict purely because of the Cloud Village's actions made it nearly impossible to justify Konoha's involvement.

The villagers and lower-ranked shinobi didn't care about the intricacies of alliances or political obligations. To them, this was a failure of leadership. Hiruzen and those who had pushed for the alliance—like Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane—were facing sharp criticism.

Even if Konoha received supplies from the Cloud Village, the war would still be difficult to fight. Yet Hiruzen had no choice but to proceed. As Hokage, he had to think beyond the immediate backlash and consider the bigger picture, no matter how unpopular the decision.

Meanwhile, in the Daimyo's palace, an aide burst into the room, excitement radiating from his face.

"Daimyo, the opportunity we've been waiting for has finally arrived!"

"Are you serious?"

The daimyo, who had been drinking, suddenly straightened up. His mind flashed back to the recent assassination attempt that had left him shaken. He had even hidden in Konoha for a while before finally returning to his palace.

The Third Hokage's investigation had concluded that the assassination was the work of rogue and missing-nin. But the daimyo hadn't believed it. He suspected there was more to the story, and Sarutobi Hiruzen's unwillingness to reinvestigate had only deepened his resentment.

"It's true," the aide confirmed. "Sarutobi Hiruzen insisted on forming an alliance with the Cloud Village, and now look what's happened. The Cloud and Mist Villages are at war, the Rock Village has joined in, and Konoha is being dragged into the mess. All the Great Ninja Villages are now involved, and the villagers of Konoha are strongly opposed to the war. If we spread this news, it will create a major crisis for Sarutobi Hiruzen."

The daimyo's eyes gleamed with malice.

"Excellent! Spread the news immediately. Make sure Sarutobi Hiruzen's reputation takes a hit."

"But, Daimyo," the aide asked hesitantly, "how do we avoid implicating ourselves?"

The daimyo smirked. "Use outsiders. Find people unconnected to us to spread the news, and once they've done their job, silence them. Leave no loose ends."

"Understood," the aide replied, eager to carry out the order.

After the aide left, the daimyo's expression darkened. He turned to the shadowy figure lurking in the corner of the room.

"Follow him. Once he's done, eliminate him. I don't want any traces leading back to us."

"Yes, Daimyo," the figure replied before vanishing.

The daimyo knew this plan was risky, but he was determined to avoid leaving any evidence that could be traced back to him. His hatred for the Third Hokage had reached its peak, and he wasn't going to let this opportunity slip through his fingers.
